CCUSD Sponsor-a-Family December Holiday Program
CCUSD Sponsor-a-Family December Holiday Program
CCUSD recognizes that the holiday season can be stressful for families who are most in need. Again this year, CCUSD School and Family Support Services is coordinating various district-wide efforts to support our CCUSD families in need during the holiday season to increase the joy and lessen the stress.
At this time, we are excited to announce our Annual Sponsor-a-Family Program. The program will enable families/groups of families/organizations to provide gifts for a CCUSD family in need. Both families will remain anonymous. Prior to the Thanksgiving break, sponsor families will receive the list of wishes and needs for each member of one family. Our request is that the sponsor family/group of families/organizations purchase at least one wish and one need for each member listed. If you provide a gift card, please include the activation receipt. All gifts will be dropped off at the CCUSD District Office Annex (located on Van Buren between the Palihotel and Lin Howe Elementary school) on December 12 and 13. School and Family Support Services staff will distribute the gifts on December 17 and 18. If you are able to make the holiday season special for another family, please click on the link below and complete the form.

Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day, Thursday, November 14.
Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day, Thursday, November 14.
This is a special day and a first for Culver City.
Join our schools in celebrating Ruby Bridges' legacy of courage and
diversity by walking with your friends to school. November 14 honors
the legacy of civil rights icon Ruby Bridges who integrated her
all-white school in 1960. Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day encourages
young people to stand up to racism and bullying and make positive
changes in their own community.
Stickers, bookmarks and buttons will be at each school for the kids
who wear white and walk to school!
We Tell Stories Assembly
We Tell Stories Assembly
By Elise Minnix (5th grade)
On October 30 th we had an assembly from We Tell Stories. We watched three short plays from
Japan, China, and India.
The first story was about two sisters from Japan who were stone cutters. One loved it and the
other wanted to be something else. They started fighting and woke up the Spirit of the
Mountains who offered them seven wishes if they were quiet. The sister who loved stone
cutting got one wish and the other got six. The first sister who didn’t like stone cutting wished
to have lots of money. The queen said she had more power than the first stone cutter sister, so
she wished to be the queen. The same thing happened with the sun, clouds, and the wind.
Then, the first stone cutter sister wished to be turned into a stone, which was her last wish. The
other stone cutter sister saw the first stone cutter as a stone and used her only wish to save
her.
The second story was a story from China about a baby rabbit. The baby rabbit loved her ears.
Her mom told her to go to the market but not to go to the farmer’s garden. The baby rabbit
went to the farmer’s garden and took two cabbages. The farmer was furious! He made a giant
scarecrow for the rabbit out of sticky rice. Later, the baby rabbit came to the garden again. She
touched the scarecrow and her ears got stuck. The farmer agreed to help her get out if she
didn’t steel any more food form his garden and when they pulled her out her ears stretched
out.
he final story was from India. The story started with a white elephant who could fly and a god
who used the elephant to travel from heaven to Earth. One day, the elephant landed in the
backyard of a man. He saw the elephant and he asked to go to heaven. In heaven, all the fruits
were huge. He brought back a pineapple and gave it to his wife. The man’s wife promised that
she wouldn’t tell anyone, but she immediately told her friend. The friend told everyone in town.
They all asked if they could go to heaven. The elephant agreed and they started to fly. The
wife’s friend asked how big the peaches were in heaven. The man told her to wait to see for
herself. The wife’s friend kept asking how big the peaches were, the man let go to show her,
and they fell.
My favorite story was the one from Japan. I liked it because the sister who didn’t like stone
cutting was funny. It was a great assembly!
