LIS Tiger Talk
December 6th, 2024
Principal's Message
Tiger Families,
With the temperatures dropping this week, please remind your student to bring a coat or at least a hoodie. We will go outside for recess when it's cold out, so encourage your student to bring what they need to stay warm outside. We always have extra coats in office if a student needs one to borrow or one to keep.
We have a lot going on these next two weeks before our Winter Break- music concerts, Grandparents & Great Influences Day, Spelling Bee, and Spirit Days. If you have any questions, please reach out to us!
Have a great weekend! Go Tigers!

LIS Principal

Message from Health Services Team: Pertussis (Whooping Cough)
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We’re reaching out to notify you that a student at LIS has been diagnosed with Pertussis (whooping cough). To contain the spread of this infection, we are asking parents to monitor your child(ren) for symptoms, keep your sick child(ren) home, and take them to see a healthcare provider for testing and treatment if you observe any signs or symptoms of Pertussis. Please make your healthcare provider aware of this message if your child seeks medical care. The period of observing your child related to this exposure ends on 12/27/24.
Early signs of Pertussis are similar to that of a common cold, with a runny nose, sneezing, and mild cough. After one to two weeks, the cough becomes more severe and spasmodic. People can infect others from the time they begin to have cold-like symptoms until three weeks after the coughing episodes begin. Adults and children with immunizations (DTap/DTap) may have a milder disease. However, Pertussis can cause serious illness with sometimes fatal complications in young infants and persons with pre-existing respiratory disease. Unimmunized persons are also at risk and should consult with their physicians.
A person with Pertussis is infectious until they have completed 5 days of antibiotics. The Ohio Administrative Code (OAC 3701-3-13 (R)), states that “A person with Pertussis… if effective antimicrobial therapy is given… shall be isolated for five days after initiation of antimicrobial therapy.”
This means that if your child is diagnosed with Pertussis, they must remain at home and may not attend school, daycare, or other activities until five full days of antibiotics are given. Law requires that the local health department complete a full investigation when results are positive for certain infectious diseases, such as Pertussis, in order to prevent further spread. Here is a link to information about Pertussis from the CDC.
If you consult your healthcare provider, you may wish to ask if it is time to receive a combined pertussis and tetanus booster (Tdap) that is available for adults and children.
Please call your healthcare provider if you have any questions or concerns. You can also reach out to the LIS office with questions or concerns.
Thank you for your attention to this matter,
Julie Carter

Holiday Support for Families
The holidays will be here before we know it! Every year, LIS staff sponsors some of our families that need a little extra support during this time of year. Loveland community members are amazing and have expressed interest in helping out as well. If you would like to help make the holidays extra special for some of our students and families, you may donate a gift card(s) (Kohl's, Target, Walmart, Kroger, Meijer). You can send the gift card to school with your student or drop it off at the front desk. If you have any questions, please contact Robin Purdin at purdinro@lovelandschools.org. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
