Principal's Message
Hello Sunset Lake Families,
We sure do miss all of you! We hope you are staying safe and have found ways to make the best of this difficult time in our country.
We will be sending out a weekly Smore newsletter for sharing updates and resources. We hope you find this newsletter a helpful place to reference additional information beyond what your child's classroom teacher will be sharing in their weekly learning plans.
As Mr. O'Neill shared last week in his letter on Friday, April 17 we are moving into a new phase of our remote learning plan. This Wednesday, April 22nd we officially kick-off our district learning plan with all of our families.
Under the guidance of our Michigan Department of Education, we have been hard at work to create grade-level plans that are consistent with our district resources and are also manageable for families to incorporate at home. We understand your family is under a large amount of stress during this global crisis and we are here to help and support you the best we can.
Beginning Wednesday we hope you are able to implement to the best of your ability the plans that your child's teacher shares out with you through their Google Classroom. We know so many of you have been doing amazing work during this whole shut down already so we hope you find the lessons continue to be something you are able to complete with your children. Our hopes are to get all of our children as prepared as much as possible for their next school year. However, we know that our fall will require adjustments and flexibility as we start the new school year.
In the past couple of weeks, we have been hard at work identifying families that do not have internet access or students that still need Chromebooks. Please contact me at
amccaw@vicksburgschools.org if your family does not have access to the internet or if you have any concerns or questions.
Also, as Mr. O'Neill shared our last school day continues to be June 12th.
Thank you and please stay safe!
Yours in Learning,
Amie McCaw

Kindergarten Enrollment for 2020-21
Due to the current situation of the school shutdown, we will be looking at organizing K screening in the summer. More information will be shared as it comes up.
Message from our Food Service
Meal Support
Last Wednesday we handed out 14,728 meals to 1052 children! Big thanks to VCS foodservice and transportation staff for their continued help with this huge endeavor. I have linked the Vicksburg Schools Meals Survey if you would like to add your student(s) to the list. These meals are for everyone.
Need comes in all shapes and sizes, not just financial. If this food keeps our families from making extra trips to the store, then it is less exposure for them or family members. If it makes families feel a sense of normalcy when they or their kids can wave at a familiar face at the pickup line. These are just a couple of examples of the needs that we are meeting, some of which are silent.
Remember we are handing out meals every Wednesday through June 10th at our normal distribution times.
If you have questions about our foodservice please email: foodsupport@vicksburgschools.org
