West Point El. Parent Update
Week of September 29, 2024
Dear West Point Families,
Happy October! We are looking forward to meeting with all of you during parent conferences this week. As a reminder, Wednesday and Thursday will be EARLY OUT days due to the parent conference schedule.
For STEM students, there will be no STEM Club this week because of parent conferences.
Thank you to our parents, PTA volunteers, and students for supporting Spirit Week this past week. Thank you, also, for supporting the PTA Membership Drive. You can still join the PTA if you haven't done so yet. Our PTA will be very busy this week supporting activities at the school, and we appreciate all of their support!
We have a full schedule this week. Here are four important things to know for the coming week.
- Our Student Council is sponsoring their annual Socktober Service Project. Please send any donations to your child's classroom. The Student Council will gather the sock donations from classrooms and will donate them to a local homeless shelter.
- Parent Conferences are this Wednesday and Thursday. We will be following the EARLY OUT schedule.
- The PTA Scholastic Book Fair will be this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Please stop by and check out the great book selection!
- The PTA Breakfast, Books, and Buddies "Character Breakfast" is this Friday, October 4 from 7:45-8:45 a.m. Please bring some books to read with your students, visit the Book Fair, and watch for famous Book Characters who will be roaming the halls.
Every day is a great day to be a Wildcat!
Sincerely,
Marjorie Conrad and Christie Bouy
Principal and Assistant Principal, West Point Elementary

Vision and Hearing Screening Notice
Dear Parents,
Davis School District follows state mandates and guidelines by providing free vision and hearing screening for students.
- Vision screening is conducted under a school nurse's supervision. We screen all students in preschool, kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th grades.
- Hearing screening is conducted under the district audiologist's supervision and includes students in preschool, kindergarten, 1st, and 3rd grades.
- Both screenings are given to students who are new to our district, experiencing signs of vision or hearing problems or receiving SPED evaluations.
If your student does not pass either screening, you will be notified.
Forms have been sent home with your students. If you wish to have your child NOT participate in these screenings, please return that form to the school’s main office.
Thank you!

Experience the Magic
A is for Attentiveness
We have finished our M-Magic LETTERING activities for September, and students who participated will earn their first letter brag tag for September. We will still continue to focus on manners each week for the rest of the school year, even as we move to the next letters for MAGIC WPE. Our new magical manner for this week is, "Show You Are Listening." This manner ties into our new LETTERING focus for October, A for Attentiveness. 52 Modern Manners for Kids
Attentiveness is giving close and thoughtful attention to the things people say and do around us. One way we do this is by attentive listening. Students will practice attentive listening by using the following rubric throughout the month. Being attentive to others can help our students be successful in connecting with others, learning from others, and building relationships.
Mental Health Series for Parents
Our DSD Student Services Department has facilitated amazing supports for our parents this year. This year's Mental Health Series for Parents offers parents unlimited access to live monthly sessions and recordings, as well as key takeaways from each topic. Each session is led by expert facilitators, providing ongoing support whenever needed.
