Why Flex Days?
Requirements
In addition to Compliance Courses, Employees must earn the following number of hours:
Certified Employees - 16 hours + Compliance Course Completion = 24 hours
Paraprofessional Employees - 12 hours + Compliance Course Completion = 20 hours
Temporary Employees, Substitutes, and 49% Employees - Not required to complete Flex, but will be required to complete Compliance Courses
Employees on a 226 Day Contract - 2 non-duty day or 2 Friday Workdays/PD + Compliance Course Completion
Please note, this day is reflected on the December paycheck. It is important for 226 day employees to reserve non-duty days if you intend to use them for Flex. Personal and sick leave cannot be used for this purpose.
Certified staff may use the 3rd day as a work day.
Workday Criteria
The workday can happen in your classroom, at a coffee shop, or at your home.
You will NOT use a timeclock or sign-in sheet.
Your principal/supervisor will submit documentation to the PD office.
Guidelines for Flex
Be Sure and Submit Your Professional Development Plan to Your Administrator when you have your Summative Evaluation
Each employee must create a Summer Professional Development Plan for Flex and review it in a face to face meeting with their evaluator. This plan will be housed in KickUp as an evaluation step. To access and complete this plan, please follow these steps:
1) Log into Kickup
2) Click My Evaluation
3) Select Summer Professional Development Plan for Flex
4) Complete the form
5) Evaluators will approve Summer PD Plans by these due dates:
March 14: AQUATICS, ATTENDANCE OFFICER, CAMPUS TECH. SUPPORT, CLASSIFIED/NON-CLASS., SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST, NURSE, OT, PT, MT, RDSPD, SCHOOL COUNSELOR
May 2: DIAG, INSTRUCTIONAL COACH, INSTRUCTIONAL SPEC., INTERVENTIONIST, MEDIA
SPECIALIST, MS CAMPUS ATH. COOR., TEACHERS, ATHLETIC HEAD COACH, HS ATH.
ASST., COACH, LEAD TEACHER, MS ATH. ASST. COACH, SPEECH PATH., TAKE FLIGHT
Compliance Course Information
226 Day Employees
Completion of compliance courses outside of the work day will give you 1 day credit for Flex. Failure to complete Compliance Courses outside of normal work hours (by August 3, 11:59 pm) will result in the use of an additional non-duty day. State and local leave cannot be used for Flex.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I don't complete all of my hours?
Failure to complete requirements will result in the employee being docked at your daily rate (8 hour increments) on the December 2025 paycheck.
Where can I see what courses are being offered in my subject area or field?
Summer Course offerings can be found here. Once you decide what courses you wish to take, you will need to register in Kickup Learning. Be sure and check Kickup Learning for information on where the sessions will be held.
Is it possible to count office work for my flex?
Certified staff and 226 day employees may designate days for classroom/office work. Paraprofessionals may not count office work for Flex. Please see the Flex Guidelines for more details.
If I am being paid to attend a session can it count towards Flex?
No, if you are being paid for your participation you may not count it for Flex.
If I am taking a course at a university can it count for my Flex?
Yes! A three-hour summer course will meet your flex requirement. You will need to provide proof of enrollment via transcript in Kickup Learning so that Flex can be documented.
Can I attend sessions online or face-to-face outside of Lubbock ISD?
With supervisor approval, you may attend these sessions. In order to qualify, you must submit a certificate of completion in Kickup Learning. This certificate must have the date of the event and the number of hours earned to receive approval.
How do I upload certificates for trainings from outside of the district in Kickup Learning?

Do Reading Academies count towards Flex even though they are not completed prior to August 4th?
Yes, those of you who are required to do Reading Academies will be able to count that towards Flex.
What if I am taking courses through an Alt Cert program (ie iTeach). Will that count for Flex?
Yes, alt cert program modules count towards Flex. 45 seat hours equals 16 hours of Professional Development. Documentation of completed courses will need to be uploaded into KickUp Learning.
What if I do not see a course for my content area?
If you do not see a course for your area, please contact that content coordinator. They will be happy to help you find a course to meet your needs.
What if I feel I have been docked incorrectly for Flex?
