December 2024
Message From the Principal
Time is flying by because we are learning so much and having a blast at the same time! We loved partnering with all of our parents during the parent-teacher conferences. Thank you for taking the time to meet with us and working together to make this a fantastic year for our children.
Our first PRIDE day was a hit! We learned about the importance of patience and discovered that sometimes we have to wait for the things we want. A big thank you to the PTA for providing our students with their own Orbeez. We watched them grow and shrink, teaching us patience in a fun way.
We celebrated World Kindness Day with enthusiasm! While kindness is celebrated every day at Berry Hill, our student council created special signs with kind words to hang around the building. Students could rip off a "kind tag" and give it to someone else, reminding us that even the smallest gestures of kindness can create a significant positive change.
Our 5th graders had an amazing time at the Adventure Park, enjoying a beautiful day focused on team building, collaborative problem-solving, and maintaining a positive mindset even when things get tough. Both children and staff had a blast!
We also welcomed our Kindergarten and 3rd grade families into our classrooms for interactive celebrations. Our Kindergarten students celebrated the 50th day of school with a fun 50's Sock Hop and our 3rd graders used their STEAM skills to create and design an obstacle course for their turkeys.
We can hardly believe Thanksgiving Recess is already here! We wish all of our families a restful and enjoyable long weekend! 🦃🍁✨
Here are some questions to ask your child about Berry Hill this month:
- Our students watched a video called Color Our World With Kindness this month. Take a moment to watch it with your child and discuss how one small act of kindness can have a big impact.
- What book did you read with your class on PRIDE Day to celebrate Patience? How did the Orbeez help you have patience?
- Around the school, there were compliments hanging up. Who did you give your compliment to and why?
Here are our "Wear It Wednesdays" for December. Students are invited to wear:
- 12/4: Fun and Crazy Socks (It's National Sock Day!)
- 12/11: PRIDE shirts for PRIDE Day (Respect)

1st Grade Naturalists
First graders eagerly ventured outdoors to collect a dazzling array of leaves, discovering the diverse trees that grace Berry Hill. Back inside, they switched gears to showcase their mathematical and literacy prowess. They enthusiastically crafted vibrant graphs and charts, displaying the colors and sizes of their leaves. With their graphing skills, they compared the unique leaves they found. The excitement didn't stop there! Students enjoyed the enchanting story of Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert and then unleashed their creativity, designing their very own leaf man characters with the natural items they had gathered. What an exhilarating way to learn and celebrate the beauty of fall!
Student Council Supports Kindness
🌟 Our 2nd and 3rd grade student council members have been spreading kindness all around Berry Hill! 🌟
Students created vibrant kindness posters that are now hanging throughout the building. Each poster is adorned with tags featuring kind words. We challenged our students to rip off a tag and give it to someone else, spreading the joy because kindness is contagious. The excitement was palpable as students eagerly participated, thrilled to make others feel good with their kind words. What a wonderful way to brighten everyone's day! 🌈💖
5th Grade Adventure
5th Graders visited the Adventure Park and had a wonderful day! Students were motivated to use problem solving skills, teamwork, and a positive mindset throughout the day.

Kindergarten Sock Hop
Our Kindergarten students and their families celebrated the 50th day of school with a lively 50s Sock Hop. The students dressed up, showcased their best dance moves, and proudly demonstrated everything they've been learning this year.
4th Grade Scientists are Hard at Work!
Our 4th graders are diving into an exciting hands-on project by creating stream tables to model how water shapes landforms on Earth! In this thrilling experiment, our young scientists simulated erosion. They watched as the soil mixture was broken down by flowing water to create sediment. When the sediment settled, it compacted to form sedimentary rocks. As the 4th graders continue this experiment, they will proudly explain how their stream tables simulate weathering, showing how the stream bed of soil mix breaks into small pieces of sediment as water flows past it. They'll observe how the water erodes the sediment, carrying it down the table and reshaping the soil mixture as it flows faster. It's a fantastic way for them to see science in action!

Message from the Nurses Office
We would like to thank all parents/guardians for submitting their child’s physical and immunizations in a timely manner!
Here are some friendly reminders regarding lice:
- Inspect your child's head for the possibility of head lice. Looking closely, you would see adult head lice, nymphs, and eggs (or nits) glued to the hair shaft.
- Lice lay and attach their eggs to the hair shaft about 1/4 inch from the scalp. The eggs and their shell casing are called nits.
- Nits can be confused with many other things such as dandruff, dirt particles or hair spray/product droplets.
- The nymph looks like an adult head louse but is much smaller (about the size of a pinhead).
- Head lice adults are about the size of sesame seeds. They have six legs and no wings.
- Symptoms include itching, tickling, or sores on your scalp.
If nits or lice are found, please call your healthcare provider for advice regarding appropriate treatment. Follow the directions for any treatment carefully. Please be sure to notify the school nurse if your child is diagnosed with head lice or has been treated. Students with lice will be checked by the nurse upon return to school.
As always, let us know if you have any questions,
Nurse Ersboll and Nurse Smith
