Vote early in our levy election until March 5
Our Levy for Learning Election is just 10 days away!
I hope you saw the note about this Friday's deadline for those who want to vote by mail.
Next Friday, March 5 will be the last day to vote early in person at Kuna City Hall. Voting times are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
We've been doing a series of video meetings to help parents understand the levy and what it means for their children's schools. In case you missed it, here are the links for our Fremont Middle School and Kuna High School sessions.
What's on your ballot?
This is the renewal of our levy for learning. A two-year, $2.5 million a year supplemental levy.
What will the levy be used for?
$1 million Continue more teachers (15)
- Lower class sizes
- Keep full time kindergarten free
$1 million Continue classroom/student supports
- Textbooks, materials replacements
- Technology replacements
- Backfill activities revenue
$500,000 Continue safety supports

What does the levy mean for taxes?
The levy amount won't change or increase. Pass or fail, the overall tax rate won't increase. The short video below provides more information.
6-12 Advisory Task Force gets to work
The 6-12 Advisory Task Force held its first meeting last night. The agenda is posted here. I want to thank each of them for their time and participation.
The group reviewed the interest based process, established its "ground rules" for working together, and began the identifying the various interests or needs and concerns.
The next meeting will be Monday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A reminder about what the purpose of this group is:
"Create a recommendation to the school board on the following:
- best practices to implement for 6-12 students this current school year to be reviewed at the March 9 school board meeting
- best practices to implement for 6-12 students in the future."
We miss seeing you in our schools and we're working to safely re-open to welcome visitors
Open enrollment for 2021-22 opens Monday
Open enrollment is the process for parents to request their child attend a different school than the one assigned to their address.
It also is the process for families who live outside of our district boundaries to apply for their child to attend our schools instead of schools in their home school district.
Idaho law limits open enrollment changes to one year, so families who were approved in the past must reapply every year.
The open enrollment application for next school year opens Monday, March 1. Here's the link to learn more: http://www.kunaschools.org/index.php/open-enrollment
Kuna Middle School students create "stained glass" window
The school's art club transformed a window that looks out on a boring electrical box into a work of art.
Teachers David Estes and Craig Dayton did the prep work for the students who painted the multi colored sections. Estes and Dayton added the black images from the district's logo.
Students who worked on the project were Adelia Rauch, Rhya Shearer, Lily Starr, Kayden Lundquist, Joanna Tapia, Paige Fullmer, Haylee Higbee, Alexis Prudent, Ohksana Toledo, Ben Staggs, Kendra Jacobson, Hailee Jacobs, Sydney Hyslop and Kennedy Henderson.

Idaho seeks parent feedback about Kuna schools
