Viking News - The Week of 8/26/2024

The Week of June 9th, 2025
Happy Friday, RMHS Students & Families,
As we look to the final full week of the school year, I want to take this time to thank the students, families, and staff for a fantastic 2024-2025 school year! Just this past week, we met the next group of incoming 6th graders, and were inspired and energized by their excitement and enthusiasm for this next chapter of their educational journey. It reminded me of just how fortunate we are to have a small, tight-knit community to raise our children in together. We can't thank you enough for your ongoing partnership as we reflect and wrap up another year.
This past Thursday, the 8th graders Wow'ed us with their civics projects at the Civics Fair held in the RMHS Cafeteria. The projects reflected a number of important projects, and reminded us of the passion, and commitment our young people have for impacting the future of our world for the better. Thank you to Ms. Herrmann and the 8th grade students for their work to make it all happen! This coming week, we will honor our 8th graders at the annual 8th Grade Recognition Night and Dance on Wednesday, June 11th. Please see the invitation below for more details. We look forward to celebrating this major milestone as the students prepare to enter high school and the new adventure that this time brings.
This Tuesday, the high school students begin their final exams. Please note that students must be in school and on time for their scheduled exams and are free to leave campus when they complete their obligations. Buses run per usual, so please plan accordingly. Students are welcome to study in the common areas if they choose to stay at school for the duration of the school day. Breakfast and lunches are available all week.
Here's to a great week ahead 😎

6th- 8th Grade Summer Reading
May 2025
We know it’s still May, but we are excited to reveal the book titles for RMS’s summer reading program. Please take some time to check out these great titles!
After utilizing multiple sources (book lists, librarians, and staff recommendations), a diverse group of titles was selected to engage our students. That being said, please note that the proposed books may not be appropriate for all readers. Given the wide variety of content, themes, text complexity, format, and language usage, please support your child in making a decision that makes the most sense for your family. 6th and 7th grade students will have time in class to explore these titles with their ELA classes.
Fifth-grade students will meet with Ms. Fauci and Mr. McCarthy (Mrs. Notte’s class on May 14th and Mr. Swanson’s class on June 2nd) to explore book choices and find out about these titles.
Check out our summer reading website for more information and to view the selected books. For students entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, your child’s required reading will include one book from our Community Reading List.
When your child is ready, they can make their book selection.
If you need guidance, reach out to Kriisten Fauci (kfauci@rpk12.org) for additional information. We hope you find an awesome book to read this summer.

Croatia Fundraiser
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to the Savers clothing (etc) drive. The picture features Thom and me swimming in about 40% of what we need in order to meet our goal (which means $5000 from Savers and a truck to come collect all the bags). If we don't make the goal (850 more bags by June 14), that means much less than $5000 and a much sadder photo of Thom and me trying to figure out how to deliver all these bags to Savers without their truck. Please keep the donations coming! Thank you thank you thank you!
Nurse
To the parents/guardians of students with medications in the nursing office:
Please pick up your child's medications by 2:00pm on Friday 6/13/25. We are required to dispose of any medication that is not picked up per DPH guidelines.
Rotary Youth Exchange INBOUND SCHOLAR FOR 2025-2026
Good afternoon all,
As past, current and future Youth Exchange students and Host parents, I’m reaching out to all of you for some much needed help.
We have an incoming scholar for Rockport High School for the 2025-2026 school year. Her name is Dolores (goes by Lola)and she’s from Argentina. As her English seems quite good, she will probably be a Senior, as she turns 18 a few days before she arrives in Rockport.
Ideally we would like to have three host families lined up for her, but it is really essential that we get the FIRST HOST FAMILY in place ASAP to start the ball rolling.
The normal hosting schedule is:
#1 from arrival usually August 20-25 time, through Thanksgiving so you can share that special holiday of ours with the student.
#2 from early December through around mid-March, so you can share your Christmas/Holiday with the student
#3 mid-March through end of school year, so you can share Easter/spring and all the end of the year activities with them…prom, etc
These are suggested dates, but very flexible depending on the host parents wants and needs.
Please talk this over and brainstorm if you are able to help host this year, and especially help spread the word to all your friends and fellow students to get more families involved in this very enriching experience.
Please get in touch with me with any help, ideas, etc. I’m more than happy to meet with any interested host families. This notice will be going into the school weekly newsletter, and the guidance dept is also working on this, contacting the Spanish teachers at school.
Thanking everyone in advance,
Ingrid Brown

Hello students, teachers, and parents! Check out this new student created website! RMHS Where? What? When? is a student created website. Students can find it in the rpk12s.org bookmarks or use this link: wwwsite.rpk12s.org to get to the website.
Important Phone Numbers & Contact Information
To simplify the process for families, we have streamlined all communications to run through the RMHS Main Office. Please use the main number for routine inquiries: 978-546-1234. For a more detailed chart of counselors, and other support personnel, please use the chart above to help navigate the team available to support you.
Counseling Connections
Please see the chart below for a breakdown of counseling assignments at the high school level. The alphabet breakdown is based upon student last name:
Why Attendance Matters
Being in school and on time are extremely important to your child's success. When students attend school regularly and arrive on time, they stay engaged in their learning, build strong relationships, and develop solid study habits. Please help us by making sure your child gets to school on time each day. The cafeteria and library are open at 7:00 am and free breakfast is available in the cafeteria for all students. The main hallways and classrooms open at 7:25 am.
School Safety Reminder
The school campus is closed to the public when school is in session and after 10:00pm nightly. This includes the use of the tennis courts, track, playgrounds, athletic fields and all other parts of the campus. This does not include families and community members attending school events in our schools or on our school grounds. We appreciate the community's understanding and support as we continue to prioritize the safety of RPS students and staff.
School Breakfast
Breakfast is an important way to start a productive day. We encourage all students to arrive early enough to get breakfast before school begins if possible. For those students not able to get to school early on any given day, we will provide a set time in the morning to be sure breakfast is accessible to all. Breakfast and lunch continue to be free for students this year.
