Sign Up for Student-led Conferences!
We will hold fall conferences during the following times:
- Tuesday, 10/15: 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM (Teacher Work Day - No classes. Students attend only with their family to attend individual conferences.)
- Wednesday, 10/23: 1:00 PM - 7:30 PM (1/2 School Day with Early Release. Conferences begin at 1:00 PM.)
This week, students are preparing for student-led conferences. These conferences are an excellent opportunity for you to learn more about what your student is learning this year, to support their interests and abilities, and to partner with your child's teachers and other school staff to support your student's success and excitement about school.
We will have FREE banana split ice cream sundaes for all families and students who attend their scheduled conferences! Earn an additional toppings ticket for each teacher you visit! You can make a sundae with UP TO 7 TOPPINGS for each member of the family who attends! Call the school at 719-328-6900 to sign up for your conference times now! Your student's advisory teacher will reach out to you as well!
What ice cream toppings should we have during conferences?!
š¦ Rotary Wings of Change šØ
Rotary had the annual fundraiser Wings of Change Event which raises monies for District 11 schools. Jack Swigert art teacher, Ms. Michele Arthur's painted dragonfly, "Oh Beautiful America" sold for and raised $3000. Way to go, Ms. Arthur! We are so proud of you and your contribution to our community and schools!
š ESP Appreciation Month! š„°
We appreciate and depend on the excellent work of our Education Support Professionals (ESP). We will highlight and celebrate their work this October to show our appreciation. Mark your calendars and join us in celebrating these valued members of the Jack Swigert community!
Here are some of the vital roles our ESP serve at Jack Swigert:
- Accountant
- Building Maintenance Team Members
- Campus Safety Officers
- Community Liaisons
- District Support Technology Technician
- Food & Nutrition Service Workers
- Front Office & Administrative Office Staff
- In School Suspension / Detention Supervisor
- Registration & Records
- Special Education Paraprofessionals
Attendance Updates
- Unfortunately, we saw a decrease in per period average attendance last week. Let's work together to get back to meeting our 92% per period average attendance goal!
- Staff can help us stay on track with this goal by not admitting late students to class without an e-hall pass. This system ensures that students' attendance is updated from being marked absent to being marked tardy when our attendance team pulls e-hall pass reports and updates attendance.
- Families can help us stay on track with our goal by getting students to school on time and scheduling appointments outside of school hours whenever possible. Please call us to share updated information about student attendance as needed at 719-328-6900
š Count Day Drawing Winners! š
Congratulations to these students, who had PERFECT attendance to all class periods on COUNT DAY and won our drawing for free entry passes to any Jack Swigert Sporting Event!

Colorado College Learning Initiative in the Mountains: CCLIM Opportunities!
This week's CCLIM adventure was paddleboarding!
We are recruiting students for incredible, free outdoor adventures and learning through our partnership with Colorado College. CCLIM is three Thursdays a month from 4:00 - 6:00 PM. This week, CCLIM students visited the Garden of the Gods and learned about how long it takes for litter to decompose.
Reach out to our staff sponsor, Ms. Amy Tomerlin if you want to learn more or to get your student signed up for this great opportunity!

Discipline Data Updates
We continue to see a steady downward trend in discipline data, showing that students' behavior is improving over time with consistency and support! Way to go, Titans!!!
Verbal warnings, parent contact, and restorative opportunities continue to be our most utilized form of disciplinary action. In school suspension/detention continues to heavily outweigh the use of out of school suspension. This means we're keeping our students in school and learning!

Free / Reduced Meal Application
We need your help!
All students at District 11 schools who serve meals in their cafeteria will eat for free regardless of the eligibility status should a household apply. The State of Colorado provides meals for students who participate in the National School Lunch Program under the Healthy School Meals for All program.
However, we still need your help by completing this Free/Reduced Meal Application. Here's why!
Even though the students are eating their meals for free, other benefits of our families completing this application are as follows:
- Possible reduction of fees for programs both within District 11 and outside of District 11
- Qualified students will receive Summer Electronic Benefits (S-EBT) in the summer when school is not in session
- Additional funding for schools and District 11 thereby providing an enhanced educational experience for students
Thank you for your time completing the free / reduced lunch application!
Safety Procedures for Visitors: 100% ID Check in Place
Parents/guardians, when entering the building just to pick up a student or waiting for them in the front Cyber Cafe area, you will be asked to show your ID and a guest badge will be printed. This is a required district policy to ensure the safety of our students. You will not be able to pick up your student without an ID to confirm it is you! We want to keep your students safe, so thank you so much for understanding this policy even though this may have not been the practice in the past.
Can you help us hit 100 followers to spread the news about all the amazing things happening at Jack Swigert Middle School?
