Opportunity for Parent Input!
Share Your Input on Budget Priorities!
We are currently developing our budget for the 2025-2026 school year, and we are asking every Met parent or guardian to complete this needs assessment survey to provide your input regarding the needs of our school. (This survey was previously shared via email, and if you already completed the survey through the email, you do not need to do so again.) The information you provide will be used by our School Site Council to help inform their decisions regarding the use of our Title I and LCFF funds in the 2025-2026 school year. Please complete this survey by Monday, Dec. 9. We appreciate your time and input.
Annual Zoo Trip!
Zoo Trip this Friday, December 13
We are excited to continue a San Diego Met tradition: the annual trip to the San Diego Zoo to celebrate the coming of Winter Break! This year’s trip will take place on Friday, Dec. 13, and will serve as our MetUp event for the month. Permission slips have been sent home with students to be signed by parents/guardians. Please sign and send the slips back with your students ASAP, and no later than Wednesday, Dec. 11. Please note that all students MUST take school bus transportation to the Zoo from the Met. Students may not drive or be dropped off directly at the Zoo via private transportation. However, parents/guardians may give their students permission to be dismissed directly from the Zoo instead of returning to campus on the school bus. This means that you agree to either pick up your students from the Zoo, or arrange to have them take some other transportation home, and they will not be transported back to the Met on the school bus. The permission slip will have an additional line for you to sign if you wish to give permission for dismissal from the Zoo.
Students may purchase lunch and snacks while at the Zoo, or they may bring food with them. Please plan to send your student with lunch money if they wish to purchase food. School lunches are available for free to any student who prefers that option and students were given the opportunity to reserve one in advance with Ms. Carolyn.
Thank you, and we look forward to a fun day at the Zoo!
Exhibitions!
Exhibitions start on December 9!
Exhibitions for this semester will be held over a two-week period beginning December 9 and lasting through December 19. Exhibitions are a powerful conclusion to each student's semester-long internship, and a chance for each student to be celebrated, as well as to have their LTI Project assessed by a panel of adults and peers. As a part of making the Exhibition experience more authentic, we slightly restructured our format this year to enable as many internship mentors as possible to attend their student's Exhibition. In addition, each student's panel will include two teachers and two students who will contribute to assessing the student's presentation. As always, at least one parent/guardian must attend their student's Exhibition, which is why advisors began reaching out to schedule Exhibitions with you over a month ago. For 9th graders, the Exhibition format is slightly modified to account for the fact that they started the year in LTI Gateway, and thus had much less time than older students at internships this semester.
If you have any questions about LTI Projects and Exhibitions, please contact your student’s Advisor. We look forward to welcoming you to campus to celebrate your students!
The Fall Exhibition schedule is as follows:
Fundraising and Donation Opportunities!
Thank You!
Thank you to the parents and community members who donated to our Foundation on Met Monday and Giving Tuesday. If you did not have the chance to donate earlier and would like to donate now, please follow this link. This is our most important fundraising event of the year and supports so many of our fantastic Met activities!
Donate to our Biology Project!
Our 9th grade Biology class is developing a interactive installation as a class project! We are looking for donations of materials, including large boxes, old paint brushes (1+ inch), butcher paper, streamers, old bedsheets, and unused PVC pipes. This installation will be part of our School Showcase on Dec. 18. Donations may be dropped off in Ms. Kohmescher's classroom (K202). Thank you for your support!
Celebrations!
Celebrating the Season with our Annual Potluck and Fall Festival!
We had some terrific talent at our last MetUp on November 22. Each Advisory competed in our talent show and then several fearless students shared their talents! The day continued with a school-wide potluck and ended with an ASB sponsored Fall Festival, one highlight being “pie the principal.”

Important Facts
Attendance, Absences, Appointments
Good attendance is of the utmost importance for your student's learning. As an independent study school where students only attend their classes three days a week, it is vital that students are on time to EVERY class, EVERY day. Parents/guardians are required to inform our office (619-388-2299 or email Carolyn Dumas at cdumas@sandi.net) if your students will be absent or late. If you wish to request an early dismissal for your student, please notify our office no later than 10am that same day.
Please schedule all medical and dental appointments outside of school hours. We know that appointments can be challenging to get at times, but please do your best to support good attendance for your students so they do not miss any valuable learning at school!
Food on Campus
Free School Meals for All!
As part of the State of California's Universal Meals Program, all students in our school district are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch at school. Meals will continue to be "grab and go" bags, and this year we have expanded our menu to include hot lunch options for the first time. If you would like your student to receive free meals at the Met, please sign up by emailing our interim administrative assistant, Carolyn Dumas, at cdumas@sandi.net. Students may also sign themselves up with Carolyn in the office.
Meals may be picked up inside K203 (office). Breakfast is served from 8:00 to 8:25, and lunch is served from 12:10 to 12:25. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, lunch is served from 11:30 to 11:45 for any student who wishes to take a lunch at the end of the Gateway class.
