Sawnee Elementary
February 2025
A Note from Mrs. Davis
Dear Sawnee Families,
January seemed to just fly by heading us into another exciting month at Sawnee! There are several days in February our students do not come to school, so enjoy the family time. Students are off for a nice, long weekend beginning February 14th through the 18th. February is also a month to watch the weather as big changes can happen. Be sure to stay tuned in to our social media and website in the event of any announcements.
February 11th is our West Community Safety Night. This insightful night will provide information to help us navigate all of the ever-changing technology that is at our children's fingertips. This information is geared towards all of our Kindergarten - Twelfth grade students. The flyer is linked below. If you would like dinner, please RSVP using this link. We look forward to seeing you there!
We can't wait for our first date night of the year - Mother/Son Night on February 22nd. Thank you to PTO and all of the volunteers who will help us with this fun night. Be sure to check out the link in this letter as well as communication directly from PTO and Sawnee to order your tickets. It is always a wonderful turn out.
Lost and found will be donated at the end of every month. Please remind your students to check before the last Wednesday of each month for any items they may have misplaced. We want them to get to their homes before we give them to families in need. Thank you for your help.
As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to give feedback, please do not hesitate to contact us. It is a pleasure to work with all of our families.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Davis
Principal

Communicating About Lice
At Sawnee, we work together to maintain a healthy and safe environment for all our students. When a case of head lice is identified, it's essential for parents, the school, and the school nurse to communicate clearly and promptly.
Why is communication so important?
Early Detection: If a child has head lice, early communication ensures that the situation is addressed quickly. Parents can check for signs of lice at home, and the school nurse can monitor the situation at school.
Preventing Spread: Head lice spread easily in close-contact environments like schools. By notifying the school nurse when a case is discovered, it helps us keep track of potential outbreaks and take necessary steps to prevent further spread.
Support and Guidance: Our school nurse is here to help! If you have concerns or need advice on how to treat lice, don’t hesitate to reach out. We can provide you with resources and guidance to make the process as easy as possible for your family.
Respecting Privacy: We understand that lice can be a sensitive topic. Rest assured that the school handles all reports with respect and confidentiality, prioritizing the well-being of your child and the entire school community.
Remember, working together with the school helps us ensure that every child has a healthy, happy learning environment. If you have any concerns about head lice, please don’t hesitate to contact the school nurse or your child’s teacher.
Thank You,
Nurse Robyn and Nurse Kate
Digital Citizenship
The lessons remind students that a stranger online is no different from a stranger in the real world and they should never share personal or private information online. Some examples include: full name, where they live, go to school, phone number, information about their parents, location (ie: vacation), etc. Our elementary students should not be on social media, as they are not 13, but one place they may share information is on gaming platforms. We will encourage students to reach out to a trusted adult if they are contacted by a stranger online.
Want to continue the discussion at home? Here are some questions to help get it started:
- It’s very important NOT to share private information on the internet. What are examples of private information?
- Why is having a strong password so important?
- What should you do if someone you don’t know online asks for your name?
- Have you set up any online accounts that I don’t know about?
