Sunny New School Year
Dear Hillside Elementary School Families,
Warm greetings to everyone as begin another exciting school year! This first week of school has been an exceptional one. 87% of our families attended Orientation Day! We truly hope that meeting the teacher, seeing the classroom, and learning more about Hillside expectations will help us to partner in providing a great school year for our students.
Before we kick off, let's chat about a few important things. Have you had a chance to review the student handbook? Think of it as your guide for the year ahead, filled with important information about rules, key dates, and expectations. It’s definitely worth a look!
Now, onto the topic of dress—yes, we’re talking wardrobe! Our dress code is all about being comfy while keeping it appropriate for the school environment. We encourage everyone to express their unique style, but let’s keep the focus on learning and positivity.
Our school is built around three core values: be safe, be respectful, and be responsible. We’re asking all of our amazing families to partner with us in encouraging students to embody these values. By working together, we create a supportive and thriving environment for everyone.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for our Back to School Night on September 26th, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM. This is a fantastic opportunity to come together as a community, meet teachers and staff, and get excited about the year ahead. Your participation and feedback are what make our school special!
At Hillside Elementary, education is about so much more than just academics—it’s about growth, confidence, and setting our students up for lifelong success. We’re all about building strong connections between students, families, and teachers, and creating a community where every voice matters.
As we step into this new school year full of enthusiasm and purpose, let’s remember that together, we’re capable of achieving great things. Get ready for a year of learning, laughter, and growth!

PurposeFull People character traits for our students of the month
September 2024
Each month, scholars will learn and practice a character trait. We would encourage our families to practice this trait at home too! During the month of September, our Hillside staff will be celebrating scholars who demonstrate RESPECT. We will focus on using good manners, using kind language, being courteous to one another, resolving conflicts peacefully, and treating one another as we would want to be treated (and how they want to be treated!). Our Hillside staff will be celebrating scholars who demonstrate respect. We encourage our families to practice this trait at home too!
Respect: seeing good in people and things (and treating them with care)
Think About It
Here are some questions to ask your child at home or talk about as a family:
K-2 What does “treat others the way you want to be treated” mean? What do “good manners” look like in our family? How does using good manners show respect? How do we already show respect at home? How can we do a better job showing respect as both kids and adults?
3-5 How does respect look, sound, and feel at school? How does respect look, sound, and feel at home? Do you have to like a person in order to be respectful? Or, can you be respectful to someone even if you don’t particularly care for or agree with them? Resolving conflict peacefully is part of being respectful. How can we show respect even when we disagree with someone?
