JMMS Updates

HERE COMES SPRING BREAK!! CLASSES RESUME MONDAY, MARCH 31, 2025
MARCH MADNESS!!
JMMS had a special event Friday afternoon as we thanked our students who participated in the St. Baldrick's event and have been displaying positive behaviors every day at JMMS. It was teachers v. students in half court basketball. The stands were full of cheering fans, there was music playing, and plenty of smiles to go around! Big thanks to the teachers who volunteered to play, and the students who took it easy on them (mostly...). Lots of fun had by all!

CAFETERIA UPGRADES THANKS TO PATT!
Thanks to the generous donation provided by PATT earlier this year, the JMMS lunch spaces got a little bit of an upgrade! Two TV screens were installed in each of our three cafeterias to display announcements and other videos during lunch times. Students were excited to see the new screens up and running. The hope is to improve communication of information to students as they enjoy their lunch at JMMS. (Students were extra happy on Friday when they got to watch a little college basketball coverage!) This would not have been possible without the hard work of our parent group PATT, so THANK YOU!!!
FUNDRAISER UPDATE
Students who sold 20 or more items for our Fall Fundraiser earned a day at a Guardians Game. That game will be on May 28, 2025. Students who earned this price will receive more information and a permission slip in April.

Purple Star Schools is a program that supports military-connected children as they relocate to new schools due to a parent’s change in duty station.
Military children move every two to three years. The Purple Star School program is designed to help schools respond to the educational and social-emotional challenges military-connected children face during their transition to a new school and keep them on track to be college, workforce, and life-ready. Military-connected refers to children of service members on active duty, and in the National Guard and Reserves.
Any military family is eligible regardless of rank.
Veteran's children & families are eligible 12 mos. past date of separation.
Any branch and component is welcome.
Gold Star Families are eligible.
Service members and their families continually make sacrifices when serving their country. In the past, many were unable to finish school while supporting their country in a time of war. Ohio law allows for school districts and charter nonpublic schools to grant a diploma to those that left high school during World War II, the Korean conflict, or the Vietnam conflict. Schools can award diplomas directly to a veteran or present them posthumously to a living relative. Schools and districts have the option to create an application that meets established criteria or use this sample application.
Military Child Education Coalition: Call for the Arts
The MCEC Call for the Arts program invites military-connected children from all over the world, representing every branch of service, to share their artistic interpretations of what it means to be a military-connected child. Since 2002, thousands of military-connected children have shared their experiences, dreams, and challenges through art.
The 2025 Call for the Arts contest is now open. Any military-connected student in grades K-12 can submit an entry here. Submissions are due by April 30, 2025.
Resources:
School Liaison Office
The School Liaison Office at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base helps military-connected students transition from one school to another and helps military families navigate the school system. The School Liaison Office is the central point of contact for commanders, military families, and local school systems on school-related matters. School Liaison services are open to all military families across the state.
Military to Civilian Transitions
Founded by military spouses in 2009, Blue Star Families empowers military families to thrive as they serve. The organization is committed to strengthening military families by connecting them with their neighbors. They support families on active duty, in the National Guard and reserves, and veterans.
The Blue Star Families Military Family Lifestyle Survey, which gathered insights from over 100,000 respondents, sheds light on the challenges military families face. Over half the veterans that participated in the survey described their transition from the military to civilian life as difficult or very difficult. One of the top issues for transitioning service members was employment and career development. The Ohio Military Veteran Educators Program (OhioMVEP) assists service members, veterans, and spouses with starting careers in education. The program provides career counseling, hiring bonuses, and access to the SkillBridge apprenticeship program.
Ohio Military Veteran Educators Program
