We can't believe December is here, which means we are about two-thirds the way through first semester. As we approach Winter Break, we want to remind students and parents of a few key things...

The semester is starting to wrap up. Please review your students grades with your student.

Reminder that all work will need to be submitted before Winter Break to count. See the Late Policy in the SHS Student Handbook and your students course's Syllabus for Reassessment Policy for more details.

We are starting to see a rise in students who are not in class and are showing up to class late. Please review the Attendance (SHSD School Board Policy 3122) in the SHS Student Handbook.

An attendance report is pulled each day and our restorative specialist will meet with students as a warning. After this warning, subsequent tardies will result in the student being assigned an after-school detention.

After-school detentions will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 2:20-3:05. This assignment will take precedence over co-curricular activities like club meetings or athletics practices. Failure to attend an assigned after-school detention will result in a progressive consequence.

All students now have a School ID card. Students are required to have these on them during the school day. Any student who enters the building after the start of the school day is REQUIRED to show their Student ID/ASB Card when entering the building and must check in with the Attendance Office. This includes all Running Start Students who come onto campus. A picture of the Current Student ID Card on the student's phone is acceptable. This helps make sure we know who is on campus.

If you have any concerns or questions about your students academics or classes, please reach out to their teachers first. Most questions and concerns can be answered by the teacher best. You can find their email on on SHS Staff Directory or directly though Parent Square.

Attention all seniors, please look at your Skyward account to ensure the spelling of your First, Middle, and Last name is correct. The name in Skyward will be the name that is printed on your HS diploma and in the graduation program. A Google Form has been posted in the Class of 2024 Google classroom or you can access it through this link.

Please email Ms. Rady at jrady@steilacoom.k12.wa.us or stop by her office if you have any questions. If Ms. Rady does not receive a submitted form from you, it will be assumed the spelling of your name is correct in Skyward. The deadline is at the end of the school day on Wednesday, December 20th.

If your student is not on track to graduate, Mrs. Johnson will be reaching out to students and will be following up with the family through email. If you have concerns about your student's graduation status, please reach out to Mrs. Johnson. rajohnson@steilacoom.k12.wa.us

Beginning in December there will be a group starting for students focused specifically on learning coping skills. We will work on ways to manage anxiety and depression through mindfulness activities, relaxation techniques and coping skills, as well as completing projects focused on mental health. The group lasts for six weeks and will be led by Sarah Menard, Behavior Health Assistant, and Brittany Castignanie, Freshman Counselor. More opportunities for groups will be available throughout the year. Please reach out to Sarah Menard if you are interested in your student joining a group. smernard@steilacoom.k12.wa.us.
