Don't Let Cybercrimnals Steal Your Holiday Fun
Gift Card Schemes
This classic gift card text scam is targeting K-12 school districts
- A text message appears to come from a district admin to staff personal cell phones
- Staff are asked to purchase gift cards for that admin, and they will be reinbursed
- Imposter then asks for staff to send the gift card number and activation code
Another type of gift card schemes involves e-gift cards
- When you click a link to view the card, you may be downloading malware on your computer
- Spelling mistakes, unknown senders, suspicious links are all RED flags
Fake Shipping Notifications
We are all receiving a ton of shipping notifications this season
- Be wary of an unexpected email notification
- Fake shipping notifications often come from a fake email address that can impersonate a well known company like fedex, usps, ups, apple, amazon etc For example @appleshipping.com instead of @apple.com
- These emails often have attachments or links that will download malware to your computer
Seasonal Offers
It can be hard to resist the lure of an online discount, especially during the holiday season.
- May include a link to a fake webpage imitating a well known brand, then prompt you to click malware.
