WEEKLY NEWS FOR FAMILIES
DECEMBER 15, 2024 - ISSUE # 16
Happy Sunday CUB Families,
Last week was a wonderful week for our CUBS! Please see below for the pictures of our National Beta Club Induction, our Bright Ideas grant winners, and our Girls on the Run and STRIDE racers! Thank you to staff that go the extra mile for our students, whether it be through sponsoring a club or program, writing a grant to create new learning opportunities, or being a running buddy...we could not do these things without them!
This week will include lots of holiday themed learning, which will still connect to the NC Standard Course of Study and will be designed to continue teaching and learning while having fun. There will also be activities and parties. Please remember that if you are asked to provide food for a classroom party, it MUST be store bought and in original packaging, with ingredients listed. We have a wide variety of food allergies among students and staff and want to make sure that EVERYONE can celebrate safely. Any parent that wishes to visit a classroom of eat lunch with the class must make prior arrangements with teachers by the day prior.
Afternoon checkouts of students cease at 3:10 pm. Anyone arriving after 3:10 should wait in the carpool line. There is a great deal or review, organizing, and movement between 3:10 and 3:25 (when students go outside for cars and buses) and it is a significant safety concern to have students moving around the building independently at that time. Thank you for your understanding.
There continues to be a significant bus driver shortage. Arrival times for pm buses depend largely on how many drivers are available and which schools have to share buses. Often, we are waiting on buses that have had to run two routes or double-up routes for another school before they get here, and/or, our buses have to run two routes or double-up with our students. I encourage all parents of bus riders to download the transportation APP, which can be accessed on the OCS website. A link is shared below in the USEFUL LINKS section of this newsletter. Anyone interested in applying to be a bus driver should see the OCS website, Employment Opportunities page.
Our Holiday themed days continue this week and are posted below.
Christmas Break begins on Monday, Dec. 23rd and students return to school on Monday, Jan. 6th. We wish all or our CUB students and families a wonderful holiday and break. May it be filled with fun, family, and memories to last a lifetime. We will see you back in 2025!!
Let's all have a great week!
Denise D. Gartner, Principal
