5th Grade Luncheon
Field Day dodges rain
Kudos to all of our strong Wescott Wolves, who showed their athletic skills and sportsmanship during our annual Field Day before the rain hit. Click below to see an album of the morning!
'My Last Year' 5th-grade show
Kudos to our 5th-graders and Mr. Coaxum for a meaningful performance of "My Last Year."
This show was based on one the children created with Mr. Coaxum in 2020 focused on their first year at Wescott, but the show - like all things - was canceled due to the pandemic. Since then, the students held those songs close to their hearts, often asking to revisit and sing them throughout their years at Wescott.
In planning the show this year, the students wanted to somehow perform music from their 2020 show. So, the students and Mr. Coaxum repurposed their 2020 songs and co-wrote new songs that reflect what it feels like to be leaving Wescott and facing the changes of their new world at Maple.

Going 'Wild for Reading' on an African safari!
Every year to celebrate the hard work students have done in the library, students participate in a giant, collaborative maker space activity where we completely TRANSFORM the library and celebrate reading! In the past we have done Camp-Read-A-Lot, Books on the Beach, Reading in the Enchanted Forest, Out of this World Wescott, and Dive into Reading.
This past week, students made the scenery for our adventure during their regular library time. Next week we will have our story by the "bonfire" and students will read in camp with a flashlight. THIS YEAR WE ARE GOING WILD ABOUT READING ON AN AFRICAN SAFARI!!!
If possible, please have your students bring a flashlight from home on their library day. We have a limited number of flashlights in the library, but not enough for everyone. Also, library schedules are a bit different next week due to the holiday and the end-of-year assemblies. Please check with your child's teacher about their library day. Contact Mrs. Janavicius with questions!
Northbrook Public Library Summer Reading
Starting June 1: Sign up • Read books • Earn prizes!
Last week, students learned about the Summer Reading Program from the Northbrook Public Library. Students are encouraged to keep reading over the summer, and why not earn some prizes and visit the library while they do it?
Get ready to "Read, Renew, Repeat" with our Summer Reading Challenge. Starting Saturday, June 1, you can sign up at the library or participate online using Beanstack on your computer or the Beanstack app for Apple or Android devices.
The "Read, Renew, Repeat" theme focuses on protecting our planet, promoting outdoor activities, and connecting with nature. These activities, along with reading, can help boost our mental, emotional, and physical health. So, this summer, we recommend that everyone take some time to enjoy their favorite book, eBook, or audiobook at their favorite outdoor spot. See the attached flyer for details or click here.
