Slate Ridge Weekly Newsletter
October 11, 2024
Dr. Parlar, Principal
Hello Slate Ridge Families,
A few important updates for this week! Report cards will be sent home with your students on October 25th. If you don’t receive one, please stop by the office, and we’ll print a new copy for you.
We had our first field trip, and our 3rd graders had a fantastic time at Lynd’s Fruit Farm, where they got to pick apples and enjoy the day outdoors! Last week, our 4th and 5th graders also participated in an online safety and cyberbullying training led by Nationwide Children’s Hospital, which helped them learn how to stay safe online.
Parent-teacher conferences are coming up on October 17th. If you miss this date, we’ll have a second round on October 24th, and flexible online meeting options are available if needed. Please reach out to your student's teacher to schedule a time.
Lastly, a quick reminder: there is no school on October 18th and 21st.
Have a great weekend!
Warm regards,
Dr. Parlar

Weekly Update from Classroom Teachers through DOJO!
Starting Friday, October 11, all teachers will be sharing a weekly update through Dojo to keep you informed about what is being covered in the classroom, as well as a preview of the following week's topics. This communication will ensure you stay updated on your child’s learning and classroom activities. If you ever need additional support or classwork, feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher. Please note that Chromebooks will not be sent home, and if work is not completed, students will not be penalized or given extra assignments. Please make sure you are connected with your student's teacher through DOJO! We appreciate your support as we work together to create a positive learning experience for all students.
Annual Title 1 Parent Meeting, October 17, 2024, Thursday at 4PM, SRES Cafeteria
Title I, Part A (often referred to simply as Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) [reauthorized as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)] provides financial assistance to school districts with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that these children meet the high expectations of challenging academic content standards.
We will host our Annual Title 1 Parent Meeting at Slate Ridge Cafeteria at 4PM. All parents are invited!
This weeks' Positive Office Referral Winners!
Our Positive Office Referral winners have earned their prizes and recognition by exemplifying the RISE expectations—showing responsibility, integrity, self-control, and engagement.
Online Safety
Online safety is essential for elementary students as they begin to explore the digital world. It helps protect them from inappropriate content, cyberbullying, and potential online threats. We encourage parents to talk with their children about responsible online behavior and set guidelines to ensure their safety. To support this, we held an online safety and cyberbullying training for our 4th and 5th graders last week. Nationwide Children's Hospital staff presented key strategies on staying safe online and protecting themselves.
Ambassadors
In this week’s Ambassadors Corner, I want to highlight Jesus and Lexi, who did an excellent job leading our meeting. They came up with some fantastic ideas for the upcoming Trunk or Treat event on October 29. Be sure to ask them about the ideas they discussed and support them in preparing for what promises to be a fun and exciting event for our community!
Literacy Corner
A Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plan (RIMP) is a document that Ohio schools and districts use to help students who are not reading on grade level.
The purpose of a RIMP is a collaboration between teachers and parents to identify a student's reading challenges and develop a plan to help them improve.
Please watch the video below to learn more about the Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plans and how they support students so they can become successful readers.

Innovation Corner
Mr. Kline attended a professional development with Lego Education this past week. He learned about how to integrate more coding and play opportunities in the classroom for our youngest learners (Kindergarten).
The Innovation program officially has our class pet! We welcomed a leopard gecko into the Slate Ridge family!

Arrival Time to Slate Ridge!
AM Arrival 9:10-9:20am - Enter from Taylor Rd., pull through the car rider loop, and drop students along the sidewalk in the pickup/drop zone. Exit through the neighborhood. Students will enter the building through the back gym entrance. Students arriving after 9:20am will be marked tardy and must be signed in by a parent/guardian at the front office.
PBIS at SRES
Our Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support (PBIS) program plays a crucial role in fostering a positive and safe environment for our students. We emphasize consistent language between staff and families to help our students grow. This October, our focus is on integrity, with weekly themes including honesty, trustworthiness, and dependability. Students practice these traits with the support of their peers, teachers, our School Counselor, and Social Worker. If you have any questions or want to learn more, please reach out to your student's teacher.
SOCTOBER
Did you know that every night in the U.S., an estimated 600,000 people live on the streets? Did you know that socks are the least donated items to shelters? For those reasons, Slate Ridge is collecting socks for Socktober! If you would like to help, please send in new socks (any size or color) with your students during the month of October. Our goal is to collect 400 pairs of socks! If we reach our goal, we will have a crazy sock day and dance party in classrooms at the end of the month. Please help us reach our goal!
PTO Corner
We’re always looking for families who would like to help with the PTO!
