Chisholm Update
August 30, 2024

Happy Friday Chisholm Families!
It's State Fair Time! Some people love the fair, and others could care less. I'm kind of in the middle because I don't like the crowds and parking, but when I do go, I usually have a good time. One thing I love about the fair, is the fact that it usually signifies cooler, fall-like weather is right around the corner. Hopefully, that trend will hold true in the coming weeks.
Earlier this week, we conducted the September tornado drill. I have to brag - the students and staff did a great job getting into our first-grade hallway. For those new to Chisholm, our first-grade hallway also serves as our school's tornado shelter. From the announcement over the intercom to the last couple of adults entering the 1st-grade hall, the entire building made their way into the shelter location in over 11 minutes, which is similar to times in previous years. Just like with the other drills we've conducted already, the students did a great job following directions and the event was very orderly.
This past Monday our PTO held the first monthly meeting for the 24-25 school year. I've added the minutes to this newsletter and will continue to do so throughout the year to make sure you are aware of items that are discussed during these meetings.
Parent/ Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, October 3rd, and Tuesday, October 8th. Both evening will have conferences begin at 4:30 and end at 8:00. Be on the lookout soon for a sign-up from your child's teacher.
A representative from Cub Scouts was at Charge Up today to speak with our students about their organization. I've added a flyer below regarding scouts and there is a parent informational meeting scheduled for this coming Monday, September 16th at 6:00 in our cafeteria. This would be a great opportunity to learn more about this organization along with how to sign up the Cub Scouts.
One of the school-wide prizes for our fundraiser was a Picnic on the Playground, which has been scheduled for Thursday, September 19th, from 5:00 to 7:00 on our playground. Families that wish to participate can bring their food and enjoy an evening playing on the playground and socializing with other Chisholm Families. We won't have food trucks on site this evening, but we are looking to secure a couple of dessert food truck for the night of the event. We will have music from a sound system and hopefully beautiful weather for our picnic of the playground.

Dismissal Reminders
At the end of the day, we ask that early checkouts happen before 3:00. If your student is a 33rd Street Walker, they should live in Old Farm or Thornbrook. If your student is a Spring Hill Walker, they should live in the Springhill Neighborhood or the subsequent neighborhoods that are too close to receive bus transportation. Students that ride a bus will load from the gym once their bus arrives at school. If you need specifics on bus numbers and times please click this link, which will ask you to fill out your address.
Car Riders will need to use the Red Hangtag, which was given out at Meet the Teacher. (If you were unable to attend Meet the Teacher, our office is open 8-3:30 on Wednesday August 14.) Please be sure to make sure this tag is visible to the person out front entering the number by our marquee. Once their number has been entered, students will come out of the building by the first grade hallway and be positioned by one of the concrete bollards numbered 1-6 (please be sure to stay out far enough aways from the bollards so your car door doesn't get dinged). If you don't have your hangtag, you will need to pull in and check your student out from the office. There is a button below that goes through the Car Rider procedures.
