Message from Mr. Hernandez
North Lake Family,
I hope everyone is having a long 4-day weekend and had the opportunity to travel, relax, or spend with family and friends. We have a short week this week and wanted to take the opportunity to spotlight Assistant Principal Week!
Let’s take a moment to celebrate our hard-working Assistant Principal, Ms. Emily Brokaw. We will celebrate her during Assistant Principal Appreciation Week for all her work on our campus. Throughout her first year, Emily has shown the courage to lead and develop her administrative attributes to make North Lake ECHS a better place. She is always there with words of encouragement, at student events, and on bus duty ensuring the best for our students. I could not do this work without her, and I am thankful to have her as Assistant Principal of North Lake. This week take the time to celebrate her just as we have celebrated our past assistant principals in the history of North Lake ECHS. Make it a great week!
Sincerely,
Adrian Hernandez
Principal
North Lake Early College High School
Atentamente,
Adrian Hernandez

ASP Updates
Hello Parents!
I hope everyone had a great weekend! Just wanted to touch base with everyone on a few ASP updates.
- So far the senior class has earned at least $7,082,474 in scholarships! Most of this amount consists of merit based scholarships alone without money from FAFSA/TASFA. As FAFSA/TASFAs are processed and financial aid awards are released this number should continue to rise.
- FAFSA Update: As of today 48% of our students have fully completed the FAFSA! 28% submitted their FAFSA with the temporary workaround from the DOE and are currently waiting for their FAFSA to process before their parents can sign it. I am working with the remaining students to work through various identity verification and technical issues. With that being said, I have some bad news and some good news about the FAFSA:
- The Bad News: Originally the DOE instructed students from mixed status families to utilize a temporary workaround by manually completing both the student and the parent sections of the FAFSA. We were told FAFSAs would process in mid march, and parents without SSNs would be able to log in and sign their student's FAFSA. The DOE has now gone back on what they originally said, and most of our students are still waiting for their FAFSA to process before their parents can sign it, and fully complete their FAFSA.
- The Good News: Students from mixed status who did not utilize the temporary workaround are able to complete their FAFSA, and parents should be able to create FSA accounts to sign their FAFSAs. Many of our parents need to go through a verification process, so I am working with them to guide them through the process.
- So far 5 of our students have qualified for the Augustana Possible grant with Augustana college, which would cover 100% of their demonstrated financial need at Augustana College!
- We had 4 current Juniors attend the ASP X Davidson Scholars Program information session last saturday!

Teens and Romantic Relationships
Parents play a large role in helping teens understand what a healthy relationship looks like. People who have healthy relationships are more likely to have greater life satisfaction and less likely to have physical and mental health problems. Take some time to read the tips below on how to talk to your teenagers about relationships. The article below, from Child Mind Institute, discusses how to share your values on romantic intimacy and healthy relations.
