December 2024

This month is brimming with holiday cheer! We’re thrilled to bring you a season full of new holiday books, exciting programs, and festive events for all ages. We’re kicking off the month with our first-ever Dolly Day to celebrate joining Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library! Children can enjoy crafts, unleash their creativity, or sing their hearts out at karaoke. On December 7th, bring the family for Holly Jolly Jammies Family Photos—don your coziest holiday pajamas and capture magical memories. Mark your calendars for December 20th as we host our second escape room, Jingle Bell Break Out, and don’t miss Holiday Bingo, where festive jumpers (a.k.a. “ugly” Christmas sweaters) are highly encouraged.
Be sure to check out our fun-filled children’s and teen programs, too! We look forward to seeing you this holiday season as we spread the joy and make memories together.

Behind the Scenes: Staff Spotlight
Stephen, Adult Services Clerk
Meet Stephen, one of the newest members of the DCTPL team! Having joined the library two months ago, Stephen brings a dynamic background, an engaging personality, and interesting perspectives - as an Army brat, he's lived in many places, such as Germany, Missouri, Kentucky, Texas, and Indiana. Stephen is a proud Ball State alum (chirp-chirp!). He was inspired to work at the library after attending the Steampunk Speakeasy event, where he saw firsthand how fun and engaging the library can be. His favorite part of the job? His awesome coworkers!
In his free time, Stephen enjoys playing video games, Dungeons and Dragons and watching movies. Some of his favorite picks include Clan of the Cave Bear (book), Emperor’s New Groove (movie), and Code Geass (TV show). Stephen's favorite spot in Danville is The Beehive, enjoying their fantastic coffee and food. If given the chance, Stephen would love the superpower to alter matter and create. If he could meet any historical figure he'd want to meet the first human to perform a successful surgery.

Patron and Staff Book Reviews
Wicked by Gregory Maguire
Pat B. shared a review of the book Wicked by Gregory Maguire. Despite really enjoying the musical, Pat only gave this book one-star. Having tried to read this book twice, Pat found it very dark and somewhat disturbing. Pat noted that the musical varies greatly from the book and would only recommend this to someone who enjoys very dark, serious novels.
Have you read the book, watched the musical, or seen the movie? Let us know your thoughts on our social media @dplindiana.
