North Merrick Library Media Voice
Spring Edition 2024
Almost... Spring 2024
🤖💻Coding Fun 💻🤖
We are Coding Programmers!
The Library Media Centers buzzed with excitement as students embraced coding adventures. Students journeyed into digital coding and hands-on programming. They explored Dance Party and Code Monkey, mastering coding fundamentals while expressing creativity through dance moves and puzzles.
Real-world challenges arose as students manually programmed bots to navigate obstacles from point A to point B. Older students crafted narrative journeys for their bots, sequencing storylines with coding expertise.
These engaging activities fostered digital literacy skills, creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork.
📚North Merrick Joins the World Read Aloud Day Celebration🌎
We're thrilled to share our participation in #WRAD (World Read Aloud Day) at North Merrick Schools! Our students engaged in 17 virtual author visits, connecting with writers from across the nation who shared their love for reading and writing. It was a day filled with inspiration and excitement as our students explored new worlds through literature.
🎉Holidays Around the World 🗺️
🎉Holidays Around the World 🗺️
Our library media centers transformed into global hubs, immersing students in diverse holiday traditions worldwide. Through digital texts, books, and videos, students embarked on virtual journeys, exploring cultures from different countries with each visit. Their passports became gateways to learning, as they filled in information about each destination. Before departing, teachers stamped their passports, formalizing their virtual travels as official educational experiences. This interactive approach fostered cultural understanding and appreciation, enriching students' perspectives on holidays and traditions across the globe through the library's immersive program.
Virtual North Merrick Library Visits
Our awesome 4th, 5th, and 6th graders had a blast on a virtual library adventure with the amazing Rosemarie Birofka, the new Children's Director at North Merrick Library! They discovered a treasure trove of resources for research projects and learned about super cool clubs and activities. Rosemarie sparked their curiosity for more!
Women's History Month 👭

Engaging in a hands-on lesson, they explored Braille, unlocking a world of communication accessibility and honoring Keller's enduring legacy.
Students in 3-6
Grades 3-6 celebrated Women's History Month by diving into the lives of impactful women through various digital platforms including Kids Discover, Epic, Sora, Pebble Go, and Capstone. Utilizing their newfound knowledge, students each created a Twitter page dedicated to a remarkable woman in history, amplifying her story for all to appreciate.
