WMS Weekly Warrior
April 1, 2024
Good Morning Woodbury Middle School,
We hope you enjoyed your Easter Weekend. April is here, and we are in for a busy month. Our school production of Moana will be performed in the Woodbury Middle School gymnasium on Thursday and Friday at 6:30 each evening. The cast and crew have worked countless hours to prepare for this exciting show. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in the WMS café all week and at the door the night of the show. We look forward to seeing everyone. Thank you for supporting our first production in many years.
March Madness was a huge success last Thursday evening. Thank you to our Parents in the Middle for an incredible spread of food and drinks. The students enjoyed activities like the game truck, face painting, gym activities, and many more. A special thank you to Mr. Sprole who shared with students a laser cutting machine. Students who visited the room received a March Madness magnet with their name on it. Lastly, thank you to the teachers who graciously gave their time to the students at WMS.
Thank you, Mr. Brutting, Mr. Kornblut. Mrs. McCurdy. Mrs. Effes, Officer Tom, Ms. Stepeck, Ms. Lopa, Ms. Arnold, Mr. Hadoulis, Dr. South, Mrs. Oppici, and The Nonnewaug High School art students.
Wednesday evening, Woodbury Middle School is hosting a forum on issues adolescent students face in and out of school. “Let's Talk Together” will begin at 6:00 in the WMS cafeteria. A light dinner will be served. The forum is open to adults only. Please click the flyer below for more information and registration.
We include the following paragraphs on the dress code for those who may have missed it in the past Weekly Warriors. Please read and share with your students so there is no confusion about what is expected.
Dress Code:
Student dress may be regulated, and students are encouraged to dress in clothing appropriate to the school situation. Restrictions on freedom of expression may be applied whenever the mode of dress is unsafe, disruptive, or contrary to law.
Any school dress that impairs safety or increases the risk of injury to self or others, causes discomfort to others (e.g., uncleanliness, malodorousness, inappropriate language), causes distraction or disruption of the learning environment, advertises or advocates the use of alcohol or drugs, pornography, or is libelous or inherently contains the unreasonable potential to upset and hurt others is prohibited. Sneakers or rubber-soled shoes are required for outdoor play and PE classes. Students may bring in a pair of sneakers on their assigned PE day. When questions arise regarding the appropriateness of attire, they are to be brought to the attention of the designated administrator. The administrator will use his or her professional discretion in addressing such concerns.
What does this all mean? In short, we feel clothing should be appropriate for the school setting. Often, we see students wearing clothing that is more suitable for the gym or beach than school. No one enjoys the uncomfortable conversation of “being dress-coded.” We ask that you discuss this with your students so they understand. Shirts or shorts that are too short or expose bare skin or undergarments should not be worn to school. We ask for your cooperation before anyone purchases clothes for the remainder of the school year that may not be appropriate.
Have a great week,
