HN KINDNESS CHALLENGE
Just a Reminder: Holy Name will continue to plan and implement weekly kindness activities. These can be very small gestures but are so impactful: holding the door, writing a quick thank you, helping a friend or your teacher. Please ask your student what random act of kindness they did or can do each day.
Holy Name Believes in Kindness:
- HN believe kindness can have a positive impact on individual students and our campus as a whole. We believe it will inspire other random acts of kindness. We believe it will improve mental health and well-being. Research has shown that performing acts of kindness can have a positive impact on mental health. By performing acts of kindness, one can reduce stress, anxiety and depression.
- HN believes our school community can grow when connections are created and strengthened through kindness. Students have a stronger sense of belonging and solidarity when they are connected through kindness.
- HN believes in providing opportunities for service. Providing this for our students can help show empathy and compassion. We believe that serving others promotes a sense of selflessness and responsibility.
- HN believes that every small act of kindness can have a ripple effect, inspiring others to be kind. We believe kindness will grow a sense of belonging in our school and with our students.
For these reasons and many more, each week, students will participate in our Holy Name kindness challenge. We encourage acts of kindness at home, at school, or in the community. Teachers will work with students on activities, lessons, videos, and discussions. Kindness will be talked about daily and infused into our religion classes and other content areas. We will also highlight acts of kindness in our newsletter and morning announcements.
If you have an act of kindness you would like highlighted in the newsletter, please email Ms. Sisk at jsisk@hncstx.org
HOLY NAME RETREAT
I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Sister Josephine and Mrs. Cecilia Ramirez for hosting this year's retreat for our 5th to 8th graders. Kicking off the monty of May with a retreat focused on Mother Mary was truly special. The students greatly benefited from learning about the different Marian apparitions. Their dedication and the time spent to make this occasion meaningful did not go unnoticed. Thank you for creating such a nurturing and enriching environment for our students to continue their faith formation.
I would also like to extend my appreciation to all the teachers who participated in the retreat. Your involvement helped make this experience even more impactful for our students. Thank you once again for your hard work and commitment to our school community!
STARBASE KELLY
Congratulations to our 5th graders. This week they had the opportunity to participate in Starbase Kelly. For more than 13 years, the 433rd Airlift Wing at the Kelly Annex has sponsored Starbase Kelly, a hands-on educational program for San Antonio elementary school students. Starbase Kelly is part of DoD Starbase, a national initiative funded by the Department of Defense to interest school children in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM. The Starbase activities are held at military installations throughout the United States, with more than 60 individual programs nationwide. "The Department of Defense has taken a position that it's very important to expose kids to STEM to increase their interest in these subject areas," said Director of Youth Programs for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs Ernest Gonzalez. "It's the only place where DoD is approaching this at an elementary level." Starbase Kelly curriculum uses hands-on learning to help children better understand science and math concepts. Some of this teaching involves the aircraft at the Kelly Annex.
Thank you to Holy Cross for once again sponsoring the transportation for our students. We thank them for their generosity and support.
HOLY NAME SPOTLIGHT
Thank you to PK3 and PK4 for the beautiful PTC performance this week. Their Fiesta themed songs were adorable. They worked very hard preparing for this event. Thank you to Mrs. Molina, Mrs. Gibbons, and Mrs. Watson for preparing our students. We appreciate all that you do for the youngest students of Holy Name. You make everyday special for them and are making life long memories for the students and their families. Thank you to Mr. Arredondo for donating your time to make the PTC meeting better for all our families. Mr. Arredondo brought all the equipment, set up speakers and microphones for the meeting, and assisted with the music as the students performed. We appreciate his support and thank him for taking the time to do this for our students and families.
We are so proud of Alina. This past week she participated in multiple Fiesta Events! I want to take a moment to recognize her incredible talents that God has blessed her with. Her unique gifts shine brightly and inspire those around her. Keep sharing your amazing abilities with the world!
Thank you to Mrs. Katherine Kramer, one of our Holy Name alumni and current parents. This week she donated a delicious meal to our teachers and staff who were staying after school for a professional development. Thank you for all your support. We appreciate you taking the time to do something so thoughtful for our teachers.
Thank you to the Rodriguez family who joined me this past Sunday for the Jubilee Mass at St. James in Seguin. It was a beautiful mass and wonderful opportunity to have all the Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of San Antonio come together to celebrate and pray together.
Congratualtions to Caleb and John who received their stripes today and Adam who ranked to a new belt.
THANK YOU
