Job Fair
On Monday, Seniors had the opportunity to attend the Cadence Center job fair!
Hello Dragon Families,
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide exceptional learning experiences for our students, we started a process to review our current bell schedule last fall. We aimed to understand if the schedule effectively supports students’ learning needs. As a part of this process, our leadership team collected feedback from parents, students, and staff through surveys and focus groups. The key takeaways from our stakeholder responses were:
Our current bell schedule is a combination of a traditional and block schedule. Some periods are 50 minutes daily and some are 100 minutes that meet every other day.
WIN Time length is too long.
Confusion on which day it is - A day or B day.
A preference for a true block schedule with equal minutes in class periods.
This feedback informed our development of a new bell schedule. Please review our proposed schedule for the 2024-2025 school year.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PORScjrdj6ly8d2Rz_i2qE1Fq3UQOec9Noy9ikDVluY/edit?usp=sharing
We have designed the above bell schedule with the following key features in mind:
A consistent weekly schedule that ensures stability for students and parents alike.
Monday serves as the focal point for goal setting and direct teaching sessions.
Math courses are scheduled daily whenever possible, with a commitment to scheduling them within 50-minute periods.
Extended Project-Based Learning (PBL) sessions, lasting up to 100 minutes, are incorporated into certain courses to delve deeper into the subject matter.
Weekly club time is integrated into Monday’s schedule to foster extracurricular engagement.
Two dedicated daytime tutoring slots are provided:
Students will have 50-minute lunch breaks for eating and socializing, during which teachers will hold student drop in time for additional student support.
Embedded tutoring sessions will take place during PBL refinement periods.
Revised WIN (What I Need) Times offer tailored support for students' individual learning needs.
Although our proposed schedule is not a true A/B block, it does address many of the challenges our current bell schedule has presented for students and teachers communicated to us through stakeholder input. Moving forward, we will continue to explore scheduling options, especially the A/B block, to assess what best meets the needs of our high school students. Through this process, we will continue to seek input from parents, students, and staff.
Parents are partners in BISD, so we invite you to participate in a principal listening session where you may share your thoughts, questions, and concerns.
April 24th 6-7pm - MegaBytes
Student feedback is important to this process, too. We are providing listening sessions for our students during WIN Time on April 23rd and 25th.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to engaging in meaningful dialogue with you at either of the sessions.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Winters
