Blair Oaks Middle School ~ August 25
What an amazing week!
Notes for next week!
Things to know and remember:
- Charge Chromebooks every night and bring every day.
- No phones can be used between 7:55 a.m. - 2:50 p.m.
- Feel free to check planners! Every student has one and is using it!
- If you are picking up your child after school, you do not need to let us know UNLESS the sibling is still riding the bus. It will just help us to know when the sibling is worried he/she is not on the bus after school.
- For drop-off in the morning, please pull along the curb. Please do not allow your child to walk through traffic.
From the Counselor...
Happy first Friday from the counseling department.
I am so proud of your students and our teachers!
Your students showed their big, happy smiles on day one. Those smiles were a bit smaller on Wednesday, and by Thursday, I really saw their energy flagging. It takes a tremendous amount of cognitive and emotional flexibility to return to school. This is even more true for our 6th graders and our new students. They have all been amazing.
Don’t forget the amount of micro-decisions and adjustments that it has taken you PARENTS to get your family up and moving as well. Feel free to declare a day this weekend a PJ day if your schedule allows. You all deserve it.
I want to also give a giant shout out to our teachers. It struck me more this week than it ever has in the past the amount of energy it takes for teachers to get the school year rolling. Do you remember how stressful it was to on-board for your last new job? Teachers do this EVERY. YEAR. This week, they welcomed your students with smiles. Each hour, they met another 20+ students, including redirecting many that wandered into the wrong classroom. They had to have their adrenaline pumping for a good 7 straight hours.
I have no doubt that each and every one of your student(s)’ teachers went home with a headache each day and many of them had their own family obligations upon arriving home. They have been rockstars. If you think about it sometime in the next few weeks, I’m sure they’d love a positive email from you. In addition, as the school year rolls on and we are all dug deep into the daily grind of school, I’m hoping you can remember how hard they worked to settle your student(s) into this school year. Think about what it would be like if you experienced 20+ clients all at the same time with all different personalities, strengths, struggles, and ways of relating. I don’t know how they do it!
Have a wonderful and relaxing weekend! You’ve earned it!
