Weekly Updates

Hello Bobcat Families! A few important reminders are below - and GET READY FOR SPIRIT WEEK NEXT WEEK...see below for more details. Have a fabulous weekend!
Are you traveling any time soon?
Please review the CT State protocols for anyone traveling outside of the state of CT, NY, RI, & NJ: https://portal.ct.gov/coronavirus/travel. If you return form travel, GPS requires a negative test or 10 day quarantine to return to school. Please be ready to show your child's negative Covid test to Nurse Nancy!
Family Members who are COVID Testing
As a reminder, GPS is asking that students stay home if a member of their immediate family is being tested. We received this updated advice from our health professionals back in December and we wanted to remind everyone of our mitigation efforts. Additionally, it will limit teachers and students from possible exposures, causing individuals to be quarantined. Quarantining is a great safety measure, but it can be disruptive for staff and families.
Free COVID-19 Testing
However, should you be in quarantine, during that time, if you or your child are symptomatic, we recommend getting tested as soon as possible. But if there are no symptoms, waiting 3-5 days from the possible exposure will give you the most accurate test results. Family Centers Health Care offers free COVID-19 testing at their Greenwich and Stamford locations. Details about their hours of operation and appointments can be found on their website. To find all test sites in your area, please visit United Way’s 2-1-1 website.
Spirit Week - NEXT WEEK!
Let’s put our hands together for our Student Council who is hosting a SPIRIT WEEK NEXT week!
Monday : Twinning (Dress alike with classmate(s))
Tuesday: Rainbow Day
Wednesday: Disney Day
Thursday: Inside Out/Backwards Day
Friday: Sports Day/Sports Jersey/Sports Hat day as we get ready for Super Bowl Sunday!!
Is your child absent today?
If your child is going to be absent for ANY reason, please be sure to call the main office in the morning. It is incredibly important during this time that we monitor all absences for health & safety reasons, and your call is greatly appreciated!
Distinguished Teacher Awards
It is that time of the year when we ask that you please take a moment to consider nominating one of the outstanding staff members at Western for recognition as a ‘Distinguished Teacher’. As you have experienced, our staff rocks! Traditionally, the west side of town has been woefully underrepresented in this selection process. Nothing against staff from the rest of Greenwich, but our teachers work tirelessly to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners. Here is the link for the nomination packet: https://www.greenwichschools.org/departments/communications/awardsrecognition-programs/distinguished-teachers-awards
Together in Safety and Learning,

Snow Days, Delayed Start, Early Release, & Snow Days for Remote School & Quarantined Classes
Going forward, if there are any necessary weather-related closures or delays, please see below for more information:
- For a delayed start, all students, remote and in-person, will follow the announced delayed start schedule.
- For early release weather-related days, students and/or classes that are in quarantine at home, will follow the early release schedule of their home school.
- For early release weather-related days, the K-5 Remote School will end class at 1:15pm.
- On any Snow Day, the full District closure will apply to all students regardless of being remote or in-person.
- Please keep in mind that with the uncertainties of this year, the District could also call a full remote learning day for PK-12+. This would be announced to all families in advance of a remote learning day.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate through this pandemic. We hope these adjustments will alleviate any of the confusion experienced over the last two days.
