Tech Spotlight: The SAMR Model
"The SAMR model [Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, Redefinition] provides a technique for moving through degrees of technology adoption to find more meaningful uses of technology in teaching & move away from using 'tech for tech’s sake'."
I like to think of the SAMR Model as Bloom's Taxonomy for technology. While we want our technology use to head into the modification and redefinition categories in order to transform our learning environments, there is still a place for substitution and augmentation. The main idea is that best practices with instructional technology truly transform the classroom creating processing & deeper learning experiences that were not possible before the technology was available.
