Greetings,
Parents, we have begun enforcing our tardy and attendance policy. Please log in to parent portal to check your student’s tardies and attendance. We will be contacting parents, sending letters, and making home visits. We will also begin enforcing our parking passes so please make sure you have purchased a pass. We will be off Monday, September, 3rd for Labor Day. Have a great long weekend!

Upcoming Important Dates
Sept. 6th 6pm - Senior Parent Night-Informational event for parents of seniors to prepare for your student’s last year of high school and post-secondary planning.
Sept. 12th 6pm - FAFSA Preview Workshop-Presentation for families of seniors to prepare for completing the Federal Financial Aid Application next month. All families of graduating seniors should attend.
Sept. 20th 6pm-8pm: PROBE Fair-Join the counselors and come out to the Classic Center for the largest college fair expo. Free event for any interested students.
21st Century and PSP
PSP offers after school tutoring in a variety of core subject areas. PSP runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays, provides a snack and transportation, and there is no application necessary.
21st Century offers a variety of enrichment opportunities for students such as Chicken Wing theater, Raiders JROTC team, and various clubs and organizations. This program runs Monday-Thursday, offers a snack, and transportation, and requires parents to fill out an application. Applications can be found at the front office and are included below.

Do you want to attend the Career Academy but are unsure how to do so? Do you have questions about which classes you can take there? Career Academy counselors will be at Cedar outside the cafeteria during lunch on the dates listed below to answer all your questions.

Girls' Basketball Conditioning
Girls Basketball conditioning has started as we prepare for the upcoming season. The first official tryout date is scheduled for October 22nd. Conditioning workouts are typically after school 4:00-5:15. You must have a current physical on file. Please see Coach Wall if you have any questions.

Season passes for all sports are not available for purchase online. Go to GoFan.com and search for Cedar Shoals High School.
Volleyball Team Victories
Congratulations to the Volleyball team for their victories over Baldwin County and Putnam County. The final scores for those matches were Cedar 25 Baldwin 17. Cedar 28 Baldwin 25 and Cedar 25 Putnam 22. Cedar 25 Putnam 18. Come support them this coming Wednesday, September 5th at their first home match against North Oconee High School at 5:30 p.m.
Clubs and Organizations
Chicken Wing Theatre
...is up and running! CWT is Cedar's Drama Club. We specialize in comedy and improv. Come get your funny on. Wednesdays after school until 5pm. CWT is part of the 21st Century Grant Program
Interact Club
Interact Club is an organization devoted to service and volunteer work, will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, September 4th in room C109. Student members participate in Rivers Alive Clean-up, Cedar Shoal's Talent Show production, AIDS Walk, International Potluck, campus clean-ups, and other similar activities. Hot Rodders/Robotics/Skills USA
We are currently looking for students interested in either Hot Rodders of Tomorrow, Robotics or Skills USA, snacks will be provided at all practices with 2 pizza parties per season, also all club students eligible for field trips to Caterpillar, Kubota, Hitachi, Carrier and Eaton
Hot Rodders of Tomorrow practice is Mondays and Tuesdays 3:45 - 6:00 in the auto tech lab with Mr. Darden
Robotics team meets Wednesdays from 3:45 -5:15. Practice is in room B214 science lab with Ms. Elder and Mr. Darden
Skills USA - practice is Fridays 3:45 - 5:15 in the auto tech lab with Mr. Darden

PTO Meeting!
Soul Shop!
Soul Shop, a nationally recognized suicide awareness training movement, is coming to Athens and will be offered at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church in two sessions. Soul Shop for the Public will be Sunday, September 16, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at no charge. This will be suicide awareness training for the entire community and will address how we think and talk about suicide, suicide as a community health problem, and steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of suicide.
Soul Shop for Faith Leaders will be Monday, September 17, 9:00 – 5:00 p.m. This will be suicide awareness training for lay and professional leaders in faith communities to respond to persons impacted by suicidal desperation, including family and friends, develop soul-safe communities to decrease the risk of suicide, and change congregational culture around suicide. This session costs $10, which includes a boxed lunch.
Soul Shop is co-sponsored by Milledge Avenue Baptist Church and First Presbyterian Church of Athens and made possible by a grant from the Milledge Avenue Baptist Church Foundation.

Scholarship Opportunities
Cadet Scholarship at UNG -
The state of Georgia funds 42 scholarship each year to Georgia students interested in joining the Georgia Army National Guard and the University of North Georgia Corps of Cadets. This means you can still have a full time job after graduating from college and be a part of the National Guard. Recipients of the University of North Georgia Military Scholarship (UNGMS) are even able to make $30,000-40,000 during their four years of college as a Cadet. This scholarship covers room, meals, tuition, books, uniforms, and fees andis worth over $70,000.

The Latino Community Fund
The Latino Community Fund of Georgia is awarding the Angelica and Bo Young Scholarships to senior high-school students of Latin American descent with a commitment to community engagement and work. Scholarships are need-based $1,000 awards that can be used for college or technical school tuition, basic graduation regalia, or as seed capital for entrepreneurship.Applications due by September 15th. The College Factory is looking for interested 11th grade students
Every year the College Factory accepts a group of 11th grade students as Fellows in their college access program, Go Succeed. These students are matched with current college students (both undergraduate and graduate) who mentor and coach the high school students through the college admissions process, with goals of post-secondary admittance and retention. THE BRYAN SCHOLARSHIP
The Lowell Bryan Scholarships are offered to two scholar-athletes (one woman and one man) in each entering class and valued at $35,000 annually.
Bryan Scholars are chosen on the basis of academic and personal excellence and potential for impact in their sport in Davidson’s NCAA Division I athletic program.
Nomination Deadline (your school may nominate up to three students) – September 20, 2018.
Nominees’ Admission Application Deadline – must be completed and received in our office no later than 5:00 p.m., October 15, 2018.
Finalists will participate in selection interviews on campus on October 28, 2018.
