Youghiogheny River
The Youghiogheny River an Indian name (Yo-wah-ho-nay) which means river that flows in a contrary direction. Like me, I bet some of you think that being so close to the East Coast that the Youghiogheny flows into the Potomac River, eastward to the Chesapeake Bay and into the Alantic Ocean. However, we would be wrong.
The 134 mile Youghiogheny River flows North through West Virginia, Western Maryland and passes through the heart of Pennsylvania's Laurel Highlands where it flows into the Monongahela River at McKeesport, PA. From there the Youghiogheny flows into the Ohio River, then into the Mississippi River and finally flows into the Gulf of Mexico.
Thank you!
We extend our heartfelt thanks to theTown of Friendsville. The Friend Family Association deeply appreciates the time and effort in honoring our POW/MIA heroes. We've received numerous positive comments from the public about the POW/MIA Recognition Day display.

Please join us as we discuss the 2024 One Maryland One Book, What Storm, What Thunder by Myriam J.A. Chancy.
At the end of a long, sweltering day, as markets and businesses begin to close for the evening, an earthquake of 7.0 magnitude shakes the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince. Award-winning author Myriam J.A. Chancy masterfully charts the inner lives of the characters affected by the disaster. Brilliantly crafted, fiercely imagined, and deeply haunting, What Storm, What Thunder is a singular, stunning record. A reckoning of the heartbreaking trauma of disaster, and- at the same time- an unforgettable testimony to the tenacity of the human spirit.

Staff can also provide referral to other community agencies if we do not have a program to address the person’s needs. ANYONE can access ANY of these locations. This schedule provides flexibility to our customers who may be working in communities away from their home, or who may be facing transportation challenges.
These locations also provide support to our customers by making DSS forms available to customers during the location’s open hours of business. Customers can look for the file box labeled “DSS FORMS” to pick up forms, information or a pre-paid envelope in which to return completed forms to our office for processing.
