Message From Principal Kinney
Happy Friday-
This has been an amazing, but crazy week here at Fowler. There has been lots going on- lots of moving parts but all of our students are thriving and our staff are surviving (LOL)! Below are a few snippets of what has taken place these past L....o.....n....g four days!
We Will Miss You: Yesterday afternoon, Fowler honored both Ms. Denise Hatch and Ms. Karen Murphy as they are set to retire in 10 more school days. Both Dense and Karen have been so amazing in so many ways. We will miss them at Fowler- their smiles, their strength, their professionalism, their knowledge and most importantly their LOVE to kids! Thank you Denise and Karen for being such amazing supporters of everything learning in Maynard!
Whole School Assembly:
While not everything always goes as planned, we were truly fortunate to have been able to welcome Ms. Doris “Omi” Edwards, a Holocaust Survivor to Fowler School this week. Bad weather, accidents, and travel delays are just part of life, and they did not prevent this opportunity from happening. Our entire school was welcoming and our students were impeccably behaved. Many students stayed back and had Ms. Edwards sign their yearbook.
Omi, in her own quiet and gentle way, shared the story of her life. She self-proclaimed at the start of her presentation that he is "long-winded" but the story of her life was both shocking, inspiring, and heartbreaking. For a little over an hour, our auditorium was silent and our students and staff listened carefully to Omi's story.
Yesterday afternoon as some of us were reflecting. The truth be told, is that this likely will be the last generation of humans that will have the opportunity to hear the stories of Holocaust survivors mouth to ears. In less than 10 years everything heard yesterday, and the many other stories of others still living will only be read in books or watched on video (that is powerful).
Grades 6-8 Band and Chorus Performance
In simple words, this was an amazing performance. Both Mr. Kozik and Ms. Sommers work magic with the Fowler students. Even with the rush back from sports, to the performance and for several a rush out to the sports night, our kids never skipped a beat! I bet they were starving by the end of the night! A shout to Mr. Kozik and Ms. Sommer for a job well done!
Next Week is Spirit Week- See below for our the themes selected by our Student Council members.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. Make sure to ask your students about the 80's TV show theme songs we played this week as part of our morning announcements!
