"I'm a hero and no one is going to tell me what journey I'm on." ~ Mitali Perkins
Award-winning author, Mitali Perkins, visited the JGMS library after school on Wednesday, May 29th. When she walked in and felt the vibe of the library and the audience, she chose to abandon the prepared presentation she originally planned to deliver. Instead of clicking through slides, she settled in and engaged us with her storytelling and her thoughtful responses to our questions. She shared her personal "hero's journey," and described how her life's experiences have influenced her work. Students asked many questions about where she finds inspiration, and also inquired about the process of her books being rejected mutiple times, considering & applying feedback from editors, practicing humility, and the validation of becoming published. Mitali motivated everyone to write their own stories, and to read some of hers!
Audience feedback
"The presentation was captivating, more of a conversation than a guest speaker. I thought she was PHENOMENAL." ~ Allyson Hayden
