🐉 ROARING NEWS FROM DAVIS ELEMENTARY! 🐉
Dear Davis Families,
What an incredible week of school spirit and democracy in action! Our halls were buzzing with excitement as students participated in our mascot election on Monday in the Learning Resource Center. The competition between our fantastic finalists - the Determined Dogs and the Dazzling Dragons - kept us all on the edge of our seats!
After a nail-biting vote count, we are thrilled to announce that by a close margin, the DAVIS DRAGONS emerged victorious! The energy was electric when we shared the news with our students on Tuesday, but the best was yet to come...
The highlight of our celebration was a special visit from Davis the Dragon himself! Our new mascot made his grand debut by visiting every classroom, where he was greeted with thunderous cheers, enthusiastic high-fives, and warm hugs from our wonderful students. The joy and excitement on their faces was absolutely priceless!
To our amazing students: thank you for participating in this important decision for our school. Whether you voted for the Dragons or the Dogs, you showed what it means to be respectful, engaged citizens of our school community.
Get ready for an incredible year of dragon-sized adventures! Watch for more exciting updates about special Dragon events and activities coming soon!
With Dragon Pride, The Davis Elementary Team
💙💚 Welcome to the Era of the Davis Dragons! 💚💙

As a reminder, we will have outdoor recess whenever the windchill is above 0 degrees. Be sure your child is coming to school with cold weather gear including hats, gloves. When there is snow on the ground, only students wearing boots will be permitted to play in the snow.

Bowling in Physical Education Class
This week in P.E. class, our students are having a blast learning the fundamentals of bowling! They're not only honing their skills but also building teamwork and enjoying friendly competition. It's been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and how well they're working together.
If you're looking for a fun activity to share with your child over the holiday break, consider heading to your local bowling alley. It’s a great way for them to show off what they’ve learned—and create some memorable family moments in the process!
Thank you for your support, and we wish you a safe and joyful holiday season.

4th & 5th Grade News
STEM Student Exhibits
In STEM, 4th and 5th grade students have been investigating Patterns in the Universe this trimester. To conclude this PLTW unit, students have created exhibits based on our STEM investigations and additional research they have done with their small groups. They had the opportunity to research more about what they have been learning, create a project with others, create models, and present their learning to other students and parents. They loved sharing their new knowledge about the seasons, constellations, stars, planets, and the phases of the moon.
STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
PLTW = Project Lead the Way
4th/5th Grade Math Competition
On Friday, November 22nd, sixty of our Davis 4th and 5th-graders were invited to participate in the Noetic Math Competition. The Noetic Learning Math Contest (NLMC) is a semiannual problem-solving contest for elementary and middle school students. “We believe that problem-solving helps students to become better mathematicians, better thinkers, therefore better equipped for advanced STEM learning. The goal of our contest is to develop students' problem-solving skills, to encourage their interest in math, and to inspire them to excel in math.” (NLMC, 2024)
We are excited to see how our students scored in this national competition! The top 10% of participants in the nation will receive a “National Honor Roll” medal, and the top 50% will receive a “National Honorable Mention” ribbon. Congratulations to all of the Davis students who took on this challenge!
4th grade SIP n Share
Our 4th graders were excited to share their published writing with other classes as well as parents today while sipping some warm apple cider. They have been working on writing small moments, adding details, dialogue, hooks, and more! Their work was impressive.
News from the Nurse
Mobile Dentist at Davis
Davis families,
Illinois state law requires that all children entering kindergarten, second grade, and sixth grade will have an oral health examination. A licensed dentist must perform the dental exam and he/she shall sign and date the report form. Dental offices usually have the form, but the dental exam form can be obtained by clicking here or by contacting your child’s school and requesting a dental exam form or by visiting d303.org website under departments, then Health Services. This exam must be within 18 months of May 15, 2025.
In an effort to assist you in completing this oral health exam for your child, the Mobile Dentist will be on site at Davis on Monday, Feb. 3rd -provided we have enough students for the Mobile Dentist to come. Please consider taking this opportunity of in-school care at little to no cost to you.
- The Mobile Dentist accepts Medicaid and private insurance.
- Self-pay by cash or check for $70 is also available for those without insurance coverage.
- Services provided are cleaning, screening, sealants, and flouride.
- Forms will be sent home and must be completed and signed by parent or guardian. Extra forms are available in the health office or you can click below to download a copy.
- Please return the forms ASAP.
- Sign-up can also be completed online by clicking here: My School Dentist
If you have any questions, please contact your school’s health office:
