Principal Nolan's Notes
November 13, 2024
Hello, Hampshire Families!
As we reach the midpoint of the second quarter, it's important that we take a moment to reflect on the progress students continue to make and the importance of your connection to that progress. The second quarter has already been filled with growth, both academically and socially. Our students are embracing new challenges in the classroom, and working to reflect on their own learning to make detailed goals for growth. Ask your child(ren) about his/her goals!
Thank you for your continued efforts to stay connected to your child(ren)'s learning and maintaining open lines of communication with us. Whether it's through scheduling an upcoming parent-teacher conference, volunteering to TAP or at our Veterans Day activities, your partnership plays a vital role in the success of our students and school. The strong connection between home and school is essential for fostering an environment where students feel supported and encouraged to reach their full potential. We appreciate you!
⭐ Parent Teacher Conferences ⭐
Parent-Teacher Conferences are quickly approaching and we are excited to partner with you to share about the growth our students are making and challenges we will continue to work towards overcoming. If you have not yet signed up for Parent/Teacher Conferences using the PTC Wizard system, it will remain open until Friday, 11/22 at 12:00 PM. Parent-Teacher Conferences provide an opportunity to be part of your child’s learning journey and ask questions you may have to help guide your involvement in your child’s efforts in school. We are looking forward to seeing you!
Reminder from Hampshire PD
The Hampshire Police Department would like to provide a friendly reminder that children under the age of 13 should not ride in the front passenger seat of vehicle. Airbags can deploy too aggressively for young children and could potentially harm their faces and heads. Thank you for keeping little ones safe!
Also, please remember to utilize the HES Arrival & Dismissal procedures when dropping off students in the morning. Officer Paradies has noticed that students are being dropped off in unsafe areas of traffic. Thank you for reviewing our procedures that ensure student safety.
Book Fair & Breakfast Buddies
The Scholastic Book Fair will be at HES next week. Each class will have a "Preview Day" in which students are able to look at the available books, posters, and other items in order to make a wish list. Each class has a designated "Purchase Time Slot" to allow students to make purchases with money put into their 'ewallet'.
HERE is more information about the eWallet,
We will also host Breakfast Buddies in conjunction with the Book Fair.
From 7:00-8:00 AM, parents, grandparents, or other family members are welcome to join a student as their Book Fair Breakfast Buddy. The event is BYOB (Bring Your Own Breakfast) and HSO has graciously offered to provide coffee in the cafeteria. Guests joining a student for breakfast will then have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair at 7:30 AM to peruse or make purchases. Students and families will not be able to go into classrooms early.
Pumpkin Contest Winners!
For the last few weeks, students and staff have enjoyed looking at the many amazing pumpkins decorated as book characters. Students and families showcased their creativity and brightened up the book shelves in the Resource Center. Thank you to Mrs. Enders for organizing this special activity, providing certificates for all participating students, and encouraging all students and staff to vote for a winner in each grade level. Winners were announced and received prizes from Mrs. Enders! Thank you to all that participated.
If your child decorated a pumpkin, he/she will bring it home by the end of this week. If the pumpkin is large or difficult to carry without assistance, please make arrangements to assist your child in getting it home. Thank you!
HSO News & Updates
The HSO wanted to thank all the families for their generous donations to the Red Cross for Hurricane Relief. Because of you, we were able to write a check for $666. Wow! This will help so many families impacted by the hurricanes last month.
There's still plenty of time to sign up for Bingo! This is a Hampshire community event and one of our biggest fundraisers! Please use this Sign Up to lend a hand.
We just love to show appreciation to the HES staff. During Parent-Teacher Conferences, we will be providing treats to keep their energy up and bellies full. If you'd like to donate an item, please sign up here.
See you at our next meeting on Wednesday, 11/20 @ 6:30 PM in the Multi-Purpose Room. The location of the meeting is different this month due to the Book Fair being set up in the Resource Center.
Hat & Mitten Drive
Troop 337 is hosting a Hat & Glove Drive in order to create a "Little Free Mitten Library" at all Hampshire area schools so everyone can stay warm this winter. Please consider dropping off any donation of new hats, mittens, gloves, or earmuffs to our collection box at HES by Friday, 12/6. Click HERE for a flyer from Troop 337 that includes more information.
Food Drive & Pack the Place Basketball Game 🏀
The upcoming holiday season is a wonderful time of year to think about ways to give back to the community. HES is participating in a food drive with a goal of collecting 1,000 items for the Hampshire/Burlington Food Pantry. Please see the attached flyer for more information and then join us at Hampshire High School on Friday, 12/20 for a Pack-the-Place event to support the basketball teams! Students and families can get in free by bringing canned food to donate to the Food Pantry. See you there!
