Dear Parents/Carers,
We have had such a fabulous first half term to this academic year. The pupils have settled well into their new classes and are making such a lot of progress in all areas of the curriculum. We will be holding open-door sessions w/c 18th November for pupils to share their learning with you. Please see a copy of the Autumn Term Diary Dates below.
Pontefract Food Bank
The Junior Leadership Team were delighted to spend time this week bagging up all of the food that was so kindly donated to support the Pontefract Food Bank. The food was collected this morning and was so gratefully received. Thank you to all our families for sending in your donations.
Pumpkin Competition
We have been quite overwhelmed with the quantity of Pumpkins we have received this week for the carving competition. The quality, imagination and creativeness has been beyond excellent. Thank you for taking the time to support your children with this festive event.
It was extremely difficult for the Junior Leadership Team to choose their winners however, they eventually chose three equal best with one pumpkin requiring a prize for being the Larks Hill advocate.
Well done to Olivia, Francesca, Seth and Harry-James!
Thrill on the Hill
It was an absolute pleasure this week to hold our very first ‘Thrill on the Hill’. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed dressing up in their Halloween costumes in the daytime and then were so excited to be returning in the evening for more Halloween fun.
Thank you to all our 300+ families for attending! This was a record number and has spurred us on to raise the bar for next year. Proceeds will go towards much needed books for our library and teaching resources to further enhance our curriculum.
Thank you to all staff who gave up their time to make this happen and for the dedicated Larks Hill mums who also volunteer their time to run our refreshments stalls. We simply couldn’t do this without you all.

Head teacher Awards
Albert W (Y1) – Albert has the most beautiful handwriting for a Year 1 pupil and takes such care with his presentation in all of his work. He has also made outstanding progress in writing this term which is evident in his book. Well done Albert!
Sara B (Y6) – Sara is a Mental Health Ambassador in school and has implemented a ‘Thank You Thursday’ initiative across school where pupils may write a ‘Thank You’ card to either a pupil or adult in school. This is a wonderful idea and further underpins our ethos of kindness. Well done Sara!
Staffing
As most will know, Mrs Law is a long-standing member of staff in school and has worked at Larks Hill as a support assistant for over 17 years. After the half term, Mrs Law will be taking ‘semi-retirement’ and will be reducing her working hours to just a Thursday and Friday. She will however, continue to support with Young Voices, school trips and other events throughout the year. Miss Kay has been appointed as support assistant for the other days of the week.
I would like to wish Mrs Law a very happy ‘semi-retirement’! Her presence will be greatly missed at the start of each week but I know this flexibility will give her more precious time to spend with her family.
As always, thank you for your continued support in school. Please stay safe over the holidays and enjoy this well-deserved time with your families.
Yours Sincerely,
Mrs Adams
