MAY 22, 2024 - NEWSLETTER
SLPHS families,
Tomorrow is Decision Day. It’s the day we celebrate the variety of next steps our graduates will be taking in their individual post-secondary journeys. Some will be heading into the workforce, some into industry specific training programs, some into military or civil service, others into certificate, 2-year or 4-year colleges. Our goal is to help each student find the post-secondary path that aligns to their interests and passions and support their readiness to succeed. We are excited to celebrate next steps with the Class of 2024 tomorrow.
Last week, we took some time out to appreciate our staff. It was awesome to share so many positive parent comments with teachers from our Possip Pulse Checks. In the past two weeks I have had the joy of celebrating and honoring staff AND students at NHS Induction and Senior Award and Scholarship Events. These events remind me why we do this work.
We had our final pulse check of the year last week. We heard positive feedback about the organization of Booster Clubs, academic opportunities available for students, the stability and organization of the school, teachers who care and ensure students have a strong learning environment, and the senior award ceremony. We also received some questions or concerns about the timeliness of grading assignments and some specific facility concerns. There were ideas for improving student support particularly with course selection and suggestions for streamlining communication tools.
Thank you to all parents/guardians who have taken time to share their experiences and insight through our pulse checks this year. Your thoughts and feedback support our continual efforts to improve.
We are down to just a couple weeks of school. We still want to see students fully engaged – cognitively and academically. Please continue to reinforce with your student(s) an expectation to end the year demonstrating high levels of learning. We’re almost there.
Monday is Memorial Day, and there is no school. Enjoy the holiday weekend. I hope it brings some rest, relaxation and joy.
One school, one community, #SLPPantherProud!

Scholarship and Awards Night
SLPHS hosted the 34th annual Scholarship and Awards Night. In total, seniors were presented with more than $83,000 in scholarships! A big thanks to all of the donors for their continued support of Spring Lake Park High School students and their futures.
Construction Trades teaches younger students
Park Terrace 4th graders are learning how to build Little Free Libraries. First step? Visit the Spring Lake Park High School construction trades job site. High school students gave the younger students tours of the site and then taught them how to safely climb a ladder, use a drill to screw in screws, hammer nails, put on safety equipment, measure and properly stock their tool belts. For many of the fourth graders, it was the first time doing any of these things.
Class of 2024 Senior Spotlight
We have asked our graduating seniors to share their plans for the future, favorite experiences and what makes them Panther Proud. Each week, we will continue to share student spotlights as we celebrate the Class of 2024. Read more about each spotlight's time at SLP.
Connor Larsen
"I am Panther Proud because the community is such a great part of the school here. The staff and students here care about each other and want the best for each other to succeed - not just in high school - but for all of the years after high school."
Connor plans to attend Century College, major in business and continue his baseball career.
Brianna Nusbaum
"My experiences in SLP athletics have also taught me life lessons that I will continue to use in my future. Coaches and teachers throughout the years have supported me and taught me valuable skills that I’ll use for the rest of my life."
After graduation, Brianna will attend Saint Mary’s University in Winona to major in Biology/Pre-Medical Imaging as well continue playing basketball and softball.
Ethan Vue
"I am Panther Proud of the school’s support for PSEO students which allows us to meet high school criteria while earning college credits."
Ethan plans to attend the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities to study Biology in the fall.
Staff appreciation praise walls
In the past couple weeks, school staff across the SLP district have been celebrated at appreciation events at each building. They showed up to a fun surprise on the wall: countless comments of praise and appreciation from Possip. Thank you to families who submitted their kind words about a specific staff member or about your child's overall positive experience at a particular school. Staff were touched to read them!
The final bell for 2023-2024 retirees
Spring Lake Park Schools held its annual retirement reception on May 21 to honor and recognize the 8 staff members who retired during the 2023-2024 school year or are retiring at the end of the school year. School board members, administrators, principals, staff members, former employees and family members of retiring staff gathered for the celebration and to watch each honoree receive their commemorative school bell award recognizing their service and commitment to the district. In the story, hear from the retirees in their own words and view photos from the event.
