Dear Friends
January 25, 2022
It’s electric!
The Snohomish School District is now the owner of an electric school bus! The Electric Type C Conventional 71-passenger Blue Bird school bus was purchased with the help of a $300,000 Department of Ecology grant. The bus was delivered in mid-January and will begin on its daily routes in the coming days.
The electric bus is expected to travel up to 120 miles on a full charge. The district plans to use the bus on south-end routes that support Valley View Middle School, Little Cedars Elementary and Totem Falls Elementary students (approximately 80-miles per day).
The total price of the bus was $391,210 (there is no sales tax on an electric bus). Of that, $300,000 was funded through the grant.
The district’s current bus fleet just surpassed the 50% mark for alternative-fuel vehicles! 50 school buses in the fleet are powered by gas, propane or electricity, and 47 buses are powered by diesel fuel.
The last school bus purchased by the Snohomish School District was delivered in May 2021. It was an 81-passenger propane-fueled bus. Our cost was about $151,000 plus sales tax for a total district cost of about $165,000.
School districts receive state transportation depreciation funds to pay for the cost of school buses. Those funds can only be used to replace or make major repairs to a school district's existing bus fleet.
The Snohomish School District covers an area of 128 square miles. District school buses travel about 1,060,000 miles per year. In a typical school year, about 8,600 students are transported to and from school every day.

K-12 isolation, quarantine and testing information
The Washington State Department of Health updated its K-12 COVID-19 Requirements for the 2021-2022 School Year on January 7, 2022. Specifically, the new official requirements included:
- Updated isolation, quarantine, and testing recommendations to align with recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention changes.
- Expanded eligibility for and activities allowed during modified quarantine in Test to Stay programs.
Information regarding the specifics of each of the state changes noted above, as well as implementation here in the Snohomish School District, are available at the district links below:
Isolation (tested positive for COVID-19) – www.sno.wednet.edu/covid19/isolation
- Isolation reduced to five days at home since symptom onset or positive test. Must be symptom- and fever-free (no medication) to return after five days.
- If symptoms not resolved upon return, person must take another test. If still testing positive, individual must isolate another five days.
- No quarantine needed if close contacts are asymptomatic and:
- Ages 18+ up to date with vaccines (primary series and boosters);
- Ages 5–17 completed primary series of vaccines; or
- Had confirmed COVID-19 in the last 90 days and recovered.
- The district and our schools offer the Test to Stay Program for students and staff who do not meet the above criteria and are close contacts.
- Those who choose not to participate in Test to Stay and choose not to test must quarantine for 10 days. Quarantine should last for 10 days after the last close contact. However, if any COVID-19 symptoms develop during the 10 days, the individual should isolate and get tested.
- Test to Stay is now inclusive of all staff and students, regardless of where the exposure occurred.
- Those who choose not to participate in Test to Stay and choose not to test must quarantine for 10 days. Quarantine should last for 10 days after the last close contact. However, if any COVID-19 symptoms develop during the 10 days, the individual should isolate and get tested.

This site is just one of many ways we communicate with our students, staff, families and community. Although we are aware of other Facebook pages, please note that this is the only verified Facebook page of the Snohomish School District and is where official information is posted.
- School Messenger - Our district uses the School Messenger automated system as a tool for communication with our parents, families and staff. School Messenger works with the district’s student-data system (Skyward/Family Access) to notify families and staff through phone and/or email of emergencies, critical school and district messages, school/district closures, inclement weather, attendance issues, underfunded student meal accounts and other events/activities. The overall goal of using this service is for parents and families to receive critical information about Snohomish schools - especially information that affects their children - in a timely manner. As long as we have accurate primary phone numbers and email addresses on record for our students in Skyward/Family Access, families should automatically receive these messages when they are sent out.
