Hello, my name is Ms. Torres and welcome to a new school year! I am so excited to have your child in my class. I have my Bachelor's of Science from Saint Louis University and Masters of Teaching & Learning from Washington University in St. Louis. I won Novice Teacher of the Year in 2023.
I am from Lima, Peru but grew up in St. Louis! My first language is Spanish and I love to travel! This year will be full of new, fun, and challenging learning opportunities. We will be focusing on our core values of HEART (Honesty, Empathy, Accountability, Respect, and Tenacity)! I canโt wait to get started!

Students in 4th grade will be able to:
๐ English Language Arts (ELA) ๐
- Write complete sentences and paragraphs about what they are learning, with mostly correct spelling, grammar, capitalization, and punctuation
- Read grade level texts independently, smoothly, and accurately (90-140 words per minute)
- Ask and answer questions about stories and texts read independently
- Use specific evidence to describe, explain how ideas are connected, and support inferences about the text
- Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown words including synonyms, antonyms, and figurative language
- Link opinions and reasons or ideas within categories using words and phrases to connect ideas
- Write about what happened or information learned from a grade-level text

- Use the four operations to solve multi-step word problems that use whole numbers and have whole number answers
- Multiply and divide multi-digit numbers in problems
- Understand and apply equivalent fractions
- Add, subtract, and multiply fractions in simple problems
- Understand and explain simple decimals in terms of fractions

- Develop a background of facts, ideas, and skills about Missouri and its relationship to our country and the world, in order to enable the student to become a contributing member of society.

- A New Nation and Life in the Young Republic
- Westward Expansion and Civil War

- Identify patterns in moving objects and relate motion to its mass and force applied
- Define unbalanced and balanced forces
- Use spring scales to design an investigation about friction
- Explain the relationship between speed and energy of an object and its transformation
- Design, test, or refine a device that converts energy from one form to another
- Describe a model of wave properties
- Explain structures for support, survival, growth, behavior, and plant reproduction
- Use a model to describe how animals respond based on their senses
- Use a model to describe changes in landscape over time and how natural process shape the Earth's surface
HOMEWORK
Students have homework EVERY DAY!! It is in their GREEN HOMEWORK FOLDER! This MUST come to and from school EVERY DAY! I check their homework EVERY DAY!

Spelling and Vocab Tests EVERY FRIDAY!!
Student get their spelling and vocab words on Monday of every week. Please study every night for 15-20 minutes.

Dear parents,
I am so excited to be your student's 4th grade teacher this year! This is where I will be posting any teacher updates. Please do not hesitate to reach out to be about anything!
Your student will be sent home with a parent packet with important information, please send it back with your student in his/her homework folder!
Please make sure your student goes to sleep early, eats breakfast, comes to school prepared and ON TIME. School starts at 8:05am!
