Welcome to our 12th week of school!
I hope you all enjoyed your 3 day weekend!
I tell you...... these 4 day weeks make it feel like everything is moving so fast! Tomorrow is already Wednesday and Fall is definately in the air! The leaves are falling, and keep falling... and the screams from students throwing them in the air can bring smiles to your face!
With this "Fall" weather comes the cold and rain. Pleaese remember to send your student to school with jackets and warm clothes! We are outside for recess rain or shine and want to make sure that your students are warm while they run around!
As we all adjust to the fact that today is Tuesday, and not Monday, I hope we can all stop and reflect a little on the history of Veterans Day, and why we celebrate it.
"World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” – officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.”
Veterans Day continues to be observed on November 11, regardless of what day of the week on which it falls. The restoration of the observance of Veterans Day to November 11 not only preserves the historical significance of the date, but helps focus attention on the important purpose of Veterans Day: A celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good."

Report Cards
Please check your student's backpack for their reportcard if they have not already given it to you! ALL Abernethy teachers sent home printed report cards today!
November Family/Parent/Teacher Conferences
Conferences are right around the corner!
Please don't forget to sign up for your time with your student's teacher.
Click the button below to see the newsletter with all the teacher conference links in it.
Field Trips
Please don't forget to pay for your student's field trips! We are having to pay the bills for some field trips and are running up against the fact that some grade levels do not have enough funds to cover the cost. If a grade level does not have enough funds collected, we will have to cancel the field trip. That is definitely something that we do not want to have to do!
The Scholastic Book Fair Is Next Week!
This year’s Scholastic Book Fair runs from November 18 through November 22.
Please stay tuned for more information about how you can set up your child's profile and add money to their electronic wallet. Cash is also welcome, so please don't hesitate to send your child with cash if you prefer. If you send cash: Please send a note with your child to specify if you would like change sent home or if you'd like to donate the remaining cash to purchase books for other students/classrooms. Also, please be on the lookout for emails from classroom teachers. They might create classroom wish lists where you can sign up to purchase specific books for the classrooms.
Interested in volunteering? There are many different types of volunteer positions you can sign up for, including:
1. Opening the bookshop for teachers to have a private viewing of all the books before the kids.
2. Working with the kids (especially the kindergarteners through third graders) to help them write their Book Wishlist! This is not a cashier position, this is similar to a "shopper" role helping kids find books that they are interested in.
3. Being a cashier. This will require handling cash, credit cards, and electronic wallets.
If you would like to sign up for a shift when your child/children are shopping, keep a lookout on Konstella for the list of times.
If you are not on Konstella, and want to volunteer to help, please email Ms. Nowak at cnowak@pps.net for sign up times.

Abernethy's Eagle Track Club
Now that we have this early morning school start time down, I bet you are feeling more motivated to get started with our Eagle Track Running Club!
Time changes on Sunday and I bet you are sitting there wondering what you could possibly do with that extra hour in the morning, and then the lightbulb goes off! Run with the Eagle Track!
I bet you have seen all those runners with the awesome head lamp beanies running when you come for drop off and you are thinking, "That looks so cool!"
I bet your student keeps telling you how much they want to come and run in the morning!
I bet that your student is also telling you all the statistics behind how running has a strong positive correlation with improved learning ability, and how exercise increases circulation in the body and enhances brain functions.
Now I bet you are wondering just how to sign up.....
Well, guess what! All you have to do is fill out the registration form in the link below and show up!
Help Beautify Our Grounds and Garden!

Movie Night Is Back!
Friday, November 15th
Join us on Friday, November 15 for our first movie night of the year. Doors open at 6 pm and the movie will start at 6:15 pm. We’ll be screening The Wild Robot, which won in a landslide vote by our kindergarten and first grade students. This event is free for everyone! Bring your friends and your own dinner (no alcohol, please), and enjoy complimentary popcorn provided by the PTA.
Would you like to help with setup or cleanup after the event? Sign up here!
A friendly reminder: Parents should stay with their kids; this is not a drop-off event.
Support Abernethy PE with Our BottleDrop Program
One of the easiest ways to support our kids’ physical education – and the environment – is by recycling redeemable cans and bottles through BottleDrop. Blue redemption bags are always available in the front office, and the PTA also delivers bags to your home! Simply email our BottleDrop coordinator with your address and the number of bags you'd like. To date, we have raised more than $4,500 to purchase PE equipment through BottleDrop. Thank you, Abernethy community! Please see the PTA website for more information.
