MARCH 2025
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear BIS Families,
Happy March! Spring is just around the corner, and we are excited for all the learning and growth happening at our school.
This month, we have had many exciting events, including our Spring Into Spring family night and the District Art Show. Next month BIS teachers will be hosting spring conferences, a great opportunity to check on your child's progress this year. If you have any questions about conferences, please reach out to your child's teacher.
As we head into the final months of the school year, let's continue to encourage our students to do their best, be kind, and stay curious. Thank you for your continued support in making our school a wonderful place to learn and grow!
Warmly,
Lindsey Nadeau

WHAT ARE STUDENTS WORKING ON AT BIS?
Music
Third Grade - Third grade students have started to learn how to play the recorder! This “pre-band” experience is a great way for kids to see if they would like to learn to play an instrument next year through our 4th grade band program.
Fourth Grade- Fourth grade students are creating their own “spring” themed musical compositions. They will use musical elements like tempo, dynamics, articulation and timbre to help create their spring songs.
Chorus - The Treble Tuesday rehearsals are every Tuesday after school until 3:30pm. We are having a blast learning music for our upcoming concert. :)
Library
Physical Education
Art
3rd grade classes are learning about 4 species of seabirds in Maine and making oil pastel drawings of them. We’re excitedly awaiting Maine’s Puffins to return to their spring nests! We’ll watch these via live cameras through the Audubon Society.
4th grade students are learning about Henri Matisse and his paper cut-outs. They’re learning to “draw with scissors”, making colorful collages in Matisse’s style.
School Counselor's Corner
In 2015, the state of Maine passed a law requiring that all public schools must implement Sexual Abuse and Prevention education for grades preK-5. After vacation, our school counselor, Mrs. Guay will teach this very important lesson to all homerooms. At our level, she will focus on the basics of body safety, body boundaries and identifying trusted adults. Please take a look at the letter attached below for more information about this important topic!
HANNAFORD HELPS
The Hannaford Helps Schools program is partnering with our school from March 16 to June 7! Through this program, shoppers will earn 3 School Dollars for every 4 participating products purchased. At checkout, customers will receive a School Dollar printout they can redeem online to donate to any school in this program.
To redeem School Dollars, all shoppers need to do is enter the unique printout code and store number on the Hannaford Helps Schools program website and select their school. Each School Dollar printout has a QR code that will bring shoppers directly to this link, ensuring that redeeming School Dollars is as easy as possible. Please note that the in-store collection tower has been eliminated so it is vital that you go online and select our school in order for us to receive this money.
DISTRICT & COMMUNITY EVENTS
Girls Got Game Sports Camp
Girls Got Game is an all-girls sports camp designed to promote athletics, fitness, a healthy mind and body. We aim to teach and finetune skills and concepts that are applicable across all sports to help build healthy athletic foundations. We play non-traditional games as a way to practice our skills, remember to play with joy, and differentiate our athletic abilities outside of the normal sports that we play. We empower girls through movement and sport. We believe that sports help foster confidence, teach important life skills, and help maintain healthy lifelong habits.
We pride ourselves on:
