GREETINGS FROM THE ADMIN TEAM! π€
We are off to a great 2024-2025 school year at JMS! After the first few weeks of school we are settling in and getting ready for some solid work with our new Cyclones. We recently took our iReady diagnostic after a rousing assembly to pump up our students. Please talk with your student about their scores and what they are doing in their RTI, EEE, or Skills classes to work on iReady.
Again, welcome to another great year at JMS. Please feel free to contact me at jadams@cpsk12.org or at 573-214-3210. Be sure to follow our JMS instagram account @jmscyclone.

UPCOMING SCIENCE CAMP π
This fall our 6th grade students will be attending 6th grade Science Camp. Team Storm Runner will attend the Boone County Nature School on October 15th and 16th, and Team Tsunami will attend on October 17th and 18th. The first day of camp will be from 9 a.m. β 5:30 p.m. The second day of camp will be from 9 a.m. β 1:30 p.m. Science camp is an awesome experience for our 6th grade students where they will learn about ecology, outdoor skills, team building, and many other things. Please be on the lookout for more information from your studentβs science teacher in the near future.
MEDIA CENTER MOMENTS π
Welcome to the 2024-25 School Year! We can't wait to get students back into our media center space. Starting the third week of school, students will be able to hang in the media center before school. We will have games, books, music and just a chillout space for students in all grades before going to their first hour. We like to say we are the happiest place in the building. Encourage your students to stop by and see our daily joke as well.
We are excited to see some of our bookworms making their way to the media center to get books before classes have scheduled their slots. We are open after school for students who need a book.
After iPad checkout, students will also have the ability to get books on those as well. We will be working on getting iPad questions answered, but if your student has any questions, issues, please send them our way as we will help them get going on their CPS devices.
Book Recommendation
This book is about a group of underdogs who come together when they are forced to attend summer schoolβfor failing PE.
Yash is the best athlete at Robinette Middle Schoolβso good, in fact, that heβs already playing on the high schoolβs JV sports teams. Imagine his shock when he learns that his JV practices have kept him from earning a state-mandated credit for eighth-grade PE. To graduate, he has to take Physical Education EquivalencyβPEE, also known as βSlugfestββin summer school.
Yash gets to know his fellow βslugsβ: Kaden, an academic superstar whoβs physically hopeless; twins Sarah and Stewart, who are too busy trying to kill each other to do any real PE; Jesse, a notorious prankster; Arabella, who protests everything; and Cleo, a natural athlete who has sworn off sports.
But when one of them tries to blow the lid off a scandal that could make all their time in summer school a waste, Yash is forced to take drastic action.
Teaming up with the most hapless crew in school can really surprise a person. And their teacher might be hiding the biggest surprise yet.
iPads
iPad handout started the second week of school. All students in grade 6 received new charging blocks and cords. These will stay at home. Students in grades 7 and 8 held on to their charging equipment and will not be issued replacements. The district supplies one set of charging equipment. There are charging stations in classrooms and the media center where the iPads can be charged if needed. These should be used sparingly with the majority of iPad charging taking place at home.
Home School Communicator and Hot Spots
Hello JMS families, my name is Jessica Goins and Iβm the new Home School Communicator at JMS. If your family needs a hot spot this school year, please have your student see me or Mrs. Kiley the Media Center Specialist and we will be able to assist in requesting one. Hot spots will be checked out to the student and MUST be returned to the school at the end of the school year. If you have any questions, please donβt hesitate to contact the school.

High School Events πππ
Attention future Kewpies, Spartans and Bruins! If you are planning to attend a high school football game as a middle school student, remember that you must be accompanied by an adult AND you must sit with that adult during the game. Middle school students are not allowed in high school student sections.
CPS has instituted a "clear bag" policy similar to those in place at college and professional sporting events. Spectators may only bring in a clear bag conforming to the requirements in the attachment below.
Mid-Town Showdown
The week of September 10-13, JMS will be participating in a friendly rivalry with West Middle School to show our school spirit and to help beat those Vikings! Check out the attached document below to see how you can help your student support the cause and beat our oldest rivals to the west.

NURSE INFO π€’π€π·
Hello JMS Parents and Guardians,
My name is Jenny Grider and I am the School Nurse here at JMS. Our health room is staffed by myself and the wonderful Ms. Sheryl, our health secretary. Please feel free to reach out to us at any time when it comes to your student and their health needs. I just wanted to share a few dates and reminders as we are gearing up for another great school year. These are some tips that can help your student be the most successful!
- Middle school students CAN carry over the counter (OTC) meds in their bookbag. 1-2 doses in the original packaging (no zip lock bags). Students cannot share meds. CPS Medication Policy
- If you would like OTC meds kept in my office for your student, you must provide the medication, sign our medication administration form and have your doctor provide a note that includes the medication name, dose and frequency.
- I cannot provide OTC medication to your student.
- All Prescription medications must be checked into the health office with a signed medication administration form. It cannot be in their backpack. I will be available to receive medications at Schedule Pick up night on 8/16 or you can come by the health office during regular school hours. Please reach out if you need other accommodations.
- Of course there are exceptions for inhalers and epi-pens. Those may be self-carried in middle school as long as we have paperwork from your doctor and a signed self-carry form from you.
- If your child has a known medical condition that requires an emergency plan at school, please reach out to your provider and ask them to send me a new plan for this year. Ex: Asthma, Diabetes, Severe allergies (food/insect), etc.
- Personal hygiene: This is tricky in middle school as bodies and hormones are changing rapidly! Deodorant, Feminine Hygiene products and a change of clothing are beyond helpful! I have a large shelf in my storage area where students are welcome to leave a bag of clothing with their name on it.
- Here is a link to the CPS Illness guidelines for quick access. CPS Illness Guidelines
