SHS Weekly Update
May 18th, 2024

Principal's Update
Tomorrow is commencement for the class of 2024. This time of year is always bittersweet for me as I get to celebrate the achievements of the senior class but also sad as I say goodbye to them as they move onto to their futures. This year is particularly tough for me as this is my first four year class and I can say that I am so proud of what they have accomplished. I also am saying goodbye to my last daughter as she leaves SHS. We started together in the middle of the pandemic and began the last four years with masks, contact tracing, and virtual learning. In spite of how tough that time was on our students they come out of it resilient, high achieving, and ready to face the world. As we celebrate at Catan stadium tomorrow it is not the end but the beginning of the next phase.
For our undergraduates we will have final exams this week. The finals schedule is attached. Transportation will run as normal but students can leave when they are done with final exams. Lunch will be served on Monday through Thursday after the final exams.
Congratulations to SMS student Luke Huber
Luke Huber, an 8th grader at SMS, recently qualified to compete nationally on the Ohio high school team in the upcoming American Regions Mathematics League (ARML) competition at Penn State the weekend of June 1. The ARML competition is held in four states and has teams of top math students participating from all over the country as well as some international teams.
Luke will be the only middle schooler representing Ohio. Ohio sends its top 45 high school math students each year to this prestigious event. Luke qualified for the team due to his high scores at the OCTM competition, the state OHMIO competition, the AMC 10, and by placing in the top 25% of the global high school Stanford Math Tournament. Luke has been attending regular training sessions with his team in Columbus and looks forward to representing Ohio.
Senior's Final Day
Strongsville Seniors last day started with commencement practice, then a cookout, a clap out at the elementary school they attended, and then finally with a spikeball tournament. The class of 24' will be remembered.
Congratulations
The Strongsville High School track team had district champions at Friday's district meet at Brunswick. Jack Dillen won the 110 meter hurdles. Hannah Jicha, Tina Veris, Brynn Severance, and Lindsay Magyar won the 4 x 800 in a new District record.
Hanna Jicha also won the 1600 and 800. Hannah (a 10th grader) broke the school record with a 5:03.21 mile.
