Dear Students and Families,

We are just one week away from beginning the 2020-2021 school year. As staff returned this week, the energy in the building has increased and the excitement of a new school year has arrived. With all the unexpected and unpredictable things that we have experienced over the last several months, the familiar feel of the start of a new school is gladly welcomed.

We are working hard to prepare our curriculum and provide a safe environment for all of our students. The changes to our school environment will be discussed in detail including new protocols, expectations, and room setups at our virtual orientation on September 4th. Below you will find details of this event and I strongly encourage everyone to participate.

On September 4, 2020, we will be providing the opportunity for our in-person 9th grade students to take a high school tour. These tours are designed to ease the transition into high school. Tours will take place between 8:00 am and 10:00 am and will be conducted by our teachers. Tours are scheduled to last about 15 minutes. All tours must be scheduled in advance using the Google Form below.

Additional Tour Details

• Only students can participate in the tours.
• All safety protocols must be followed.
• Students must wear a mask.
• Maintain social distancing.
• Commit to washing hands and using hand sanitizer.
• Any student who is sick or has been exposed to anyone who has had COVID-19 should not attend a tour.

Tour highlights will include:

• Athletic complex
• Academic Buildings
• Students will tour in groups of 2-3 students with one staff member.

Students should bring a copy of their class schedule. Tours will begin at the High School gymnasium. Please enter through the Welcome Center Office. Please respond by September 1, 2020.

9th Grade Student Tour Sign Up Form

On September 4, 2020, we will be hosting our Virtual High School Orientation. This event will take place online from 10:15 am to 2:00 pm. During this time, students and parents can attend one of three online sessions where they will be introduced to school safety protocols and other important information related to our responsible restart of the school year.

Session Times

Session #1: 10:15 am - 11:00 am

Session #2: 12:00 pm -12:45 pm

Session #3: 1:15 pm - 2:00 pm

All sessions will be virtual via Google Meets. Each student who signs up will be assigned to their 2nd period teacher for this orientation event. Meeting links will be emailed to your NAPLS email account by your orientation leader prior to the September 4th event.

New Albany Virtual Orientation Sign Up

There have been additional graduation requirements added by the state for the Class of 2023 and beyond. Along with twenty one high school course credits and completing state testing requirements, students must earn a minimum of two graduation seals to qualify for graduation. The twelve qualifying seals can be earned through NAHS coursework, state testing, SAT/ACT results, military enlistment and a few other options. Our school counselors and administrators will be working with students and families to track progress towards the completion of this new requirement. More information is included in our board presentation from Monday, August 24th.

Submit a Schedule Course Request Appeal Form by September 10 at midnight. All students should follow their schedule in PowerSchool until notified of a change being made.

These forms will be reviewed by a committee. Very few schedule changes will be made as classes have been balanced by hybrid groups to allow for social distancing requirements.

We would like to thank all of the students and staff the contributed to our "Pass the Light" memorial for Michael Lucey. Michael made a big impact on our Eagle family. He will be greatly missed.

Want to request opt out for your child? This application is for students who would like to apply to opt out of a specific period of the traditional instructional day. Students who opt our are required to leave campus during the approve opt out periods. Follow these instructions.

CCP classes are aligned to college start dates and may begin prior to September 8. Contact your college credit plus advisor or professor with CCP specific questions.
