On October 20th, District 123 will be celebrating Unity Day. The message of Unity Day is to unite all of us to come together against bullying.

What can you do to celebrate Unity Day?

On October 20th, wear as much orange as you can! Together, we as a district, a school, and a community can come together and unite against bullying and instead encourage kindness and acceptance!

We are looking forward to our Fall Family Conferences this week. Conferences will be taking place on Thursday, October 14th and Friday, October 15th.

Opportunities for our staff and our families to come together around the common goal of providing the best learning opportunities for our students is so important.

A reminder that there are no in-person Conferences this year. Please be mindful of the time when attending your conference as our staff are meeting with many families over the course of these two days and we want to be respectful of time with each.

The Halloween Spooktacular Bash held by the Covington PTO is quickly approaching. It is being held on October 22 at the Oak Lawn Pavilion on Oak Park Ave. We will have the hall from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. We are looking for volunteers to help with set up, clean up, and during the event for various things. Any help is appreciated.

Last year was lots of fun, so this year will be the 2nd annual Spooktacular celebration. This will be held on Saturday, October 23 at OLHMS.

This past Monday, October 4th, we will begin COVID-19 SHIELD testing at Covington only for those that have already completed the OPT-IN form and signed their student up in Skyward Family Access.

The SHIELD Illinois program is a quick, simple, and non-invasive COVID-19 screening test. Students that have opted-in to the program will provide a small amount of saliva that is tested at a professional lab. Results of the test are then provided to families and our school district within the days following. The program offers students the opportunity to reduce or waive quarantine requirements in the event of close contact with a positive case or if the student demonstrates symptoms. You can opt-in to the program at any time by accessing Online Forms in Skyward Family Access. Please refer to these reminders on expectations during Pick-Up and Drop-Off. These reminders are specifically in regards to parking during these times.

• Double parking on 52nd Avenue (or any street around Covington) is never allowed
• Parking or stopping on the school-side of the street on 52nd Avenue is never allowed
• There are designated crossing areas on 52nd Avenue and should use them when crossing the street

These expectations are to ensure the safety of our students and families and are expectations of Covington Elementary School and Oak Lawn.
