Note from Admin Team
Greetings, Wildcats,
It was an awesome week at Trailridge, featuring the start of wrestling and girls' basketball. We also enjoyed a wonderful band concert. The week concluded with the celebrations for our Traversing the Trail winners. Please see some pictures below. Our students had a lot of fun at Mr. Engler's expense! :)
I also want to take a moment to remind you of some after-school resources available to support our students. In addition to sports and athletics, we offer homework help as well as math and reading tutoring. Students can ride a late bus home, except on Wednesday and Friday nights. I’ve included the days and times below.
Math Tutoring: Monday and Wednesday
Reading Tutoring: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
Homework Help: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday
Have a great weekend and thank you for your continued support of our students and staff!
Sincerely,
Matt, Cara and Ericka

Shout out to our PTA for everything they did to make this a huge success. Also, special shout out to Angela Gantzer and April Housel who were the main organizers.
Traversing the trail would not have been a success without some of the partnerships of our community. Please see the list of the organizations below who helped donate. We encourage you to help support them in any way you can.
Main Event, Paulo and Bills, Red Door, Johnny's, Jose Peppers, Dutch Bros, McDonalds, Rush, Park Lanes, Mother Cluckers, Dunkin', Sonic, Freddy's and McClain's!
2nd Annual Trailridge Career Fair
We are excited to announce our annual Career Fair for the 24/25 school year and are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help make the event a success! If you have a passion for guiding students and sharing your professional experiences, we would love to have you join us. Your support will inspire our students as they explore various career paths. Below is a flyer with more information as well as a QR code linked to our sign up sheet.
Student Highlight
Our student highlight will run throughout the year to showcase the amazing things our talented students are doing outside of the school day. Examples may include community service, sports accomplishments, awards, and more! If your student is involved in something that deserves recognition, please email Mr. Engler at matthewengler@smsd.org with a short description and a few pictures.
Trailridge Student Service Team
Dear Families,
Although we wish it were not the case, suicide is a reality for our young people. While this may be surprising to many adults, it comes as no surprise to our young people. A common myth exists that talking about suicide may implant suicidal ideas or thoughts into another person’s mind. Research has shown this myth to be false. Talking and educating about suicide does not increase the likelihood that it will occur, rather, it decreases it and reduces the stigma.
We would like to believe that we could tell if our children were having thoughts of suicide, but most adolescents are more likely to openly reveal thoughts of suicide to their peers. This places a burden of responsibility on young people that they are often unprepared to handle
For these reasons, on Thursday October 24th and Wednesday October 30th our middle school students will participate in suicide education. This will include risk and preventive factors, how to help a friend in need and identify the trusted adults in their life.
8th Grade’s presentation will occur on October 24th and 7th grade’s presentation will occur on October 30th. Both grades will occur during their social studies class and they will not miss any academic time. Both presentations will be facilitated by Elisabeth Johnsrud (8th grade counselor), Kristin Warner (7th grade counselor) and Anna OConnor (school social worker).
If you you feel like this presentation may be too much for your student or wish for your student to not participate, please reach out to the student service team (contact information below). Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
- If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, call or text 988 immediately.
- If you are uncomfortable talking on the phone, you can chat the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988lifeline.org.
- You can also text NAMI to 741-741 to be connected to a free, trained crisis counselor on the Crisis Text Line.

Additional Trailridge Information
ATTENDANCE IS IMPORTANT!
Attendance Line: 913 993-1012
If your child is going to miss a class for an appointment or any reason, please make sure you are calling the attendance hotline listed above and leave a message for the attendance clerk. This is important so that we can excuse the absence.
Early Pickup for Appointments:
If your student will need to be picked up early, please call the main office (913-993-1000) when you are on the way to pickup your student. We will immediately call them down so that they are ready when you arrive. Please avoid calling too far in advance.
INFORMATION ABOUT TRUANCY
The administration of Trailridge may begin to request documentation for all absences after the 10th absence in a school year. Absences without a doctor's note or administrative approval may be recorded as unexcused. A student with three consecutive unexcused absences, five unexcused absences in a semester, or seven unexcused absences in a year is considered TRUANT according to Kansas State statues. A truancy report may be filed with the Johnson County District Attorney's office.
