Today all Sato students and staff participated in a Lockdown Drill. The Beaverton School District uses the Standard Response Protocol. For more information please see the handout linked directly below.

Our tons of fun Raccoon Run! This is a great way to include extended family and friends that have an interest in your child’s education. Money raised supports SECO programs such as Art Literacy, OBOB, Voyagers, STEAM Night, field studies, transportation for field trips, etc., that directly enrich your student’s education. In addition, we are growing and SECO continues to field classroom requests for STEAM equipment and supplies.

Online donations: Sato is using an awesome web-based fundraising system that makes it easy for you to request pledges from family and friends, and for them to make secure credit card donations online. Go to http://pledgestar.com/sato to register!

Schedule: Students will be running during their grade level specials time. Details on the schedule for each grade will be sent home soon.

Volunteers: Please consider signing up to volunteer—you make it happen! We will need volunteers to lead students through warmup stretches, mark completed laps, and hand out popsicles to tired runners.

Running Club Credit: We have a great running club going here at Sato and definitely want to give our runners credit for the extra running they’ll be doing.

Coming home with your child this week are Sato's Car Pick Up Cards to be used in the event of an emergency closure due to a weather event OR if you do car pick up with your child on a regular basis.

Please write your child's Last and First name as large and clear as possible, as well as grade and teacher name. Place these cards in the dash of your car to help staff quickly locate your child during an emergency closure event due to weather. They care color coded by grade level in rainbow order (Kinder = red, First = orange, Second = yellow, Third = green, Fourth = blue and 5th = purple.)

If you would like to request another card for your spouse's car or another relative who may be doing pick up, please just ask in the office.

Speak Up 4 Student Success: HB 3427 - Student Success Act

The Oregon Legislature passed and the Governor signed the $2 billion Student Success Act (HB 3427) in Spring 2019. This is an historic and much needed investment in K-12 schools. The Beaverton School District could be able to access an estimated $34 million per year through a state application process.

School districts are required to apply for funds, and must engage their community in a needs assessment process prior to the application for funds. We will host a series of Community Conversations - Speak Up 4 Student Success in several locations throughout the BSD. Schools will also be engaging their communities in these conversations during September and October.

If you have any pants that have gotten too small for your kiddo, consider donating to our Health Room. We have a particular need for small pant sizes for both boys and girls - think kindergarten or first grade size.

Every year students are considered for Talented and Gifted services in Beaverton School District. These services are provided by your child's classroom teacher. If you think your child might qualify, you may wish to complete the Parent Information Form linked below and return it by November 8th. TAG testing will take place between November 18th-22nd.

• 4-8

Completing this form gives our school TAG committee more information about your child, but it is not required. All qualified students will be considered regardless of its completion.

Oregon law and District policy define gifted students as those who score at or above the 97th percentile on a standardized, nationally normed test of mental ability and/or academic achievement. Behavioral, learning, and/or performance information is also considered before a student is identified for TAG services.

CogAT Screener for 3rd and 5th grade will be October 8th.

This 30-minute test measures students’ learned reasoning abilities through verbal/picture analogies, number analogies and figure matrices.

Currently the main purpose for administering the CogAT is to identify students for TAG in the area of intellectual ability. Students who score at the 97th percentile or above on the CogAT screener will be invited to test with the full version of the CogAT that is used for potential TAG identification. The full version of the CogAT will be given in November. For more information about testing, your school’s TAG facilitators, Celena Rosenberger and Mark Irwin. When test results are returned, we will be sending you a copy with additional information about our TAG program.

The Beaverton School District is nationally recognized for high student achievement and innovative programs. Beaverton students in grades 6-12 have the opportunity to investigate learning options that best fit their academic needs. Students can choose their neighborhood school, or apply for one of a number of Learning Option Programs. Transportation is provided.

Applications for the 2020-2021 school year will be available starting Monday, October 14, 2019. Please do some early investigation of the Learning Options Programs online and plan to attend one or more of the open houses that are available. Students may only select one option on their application.

All applicants must reside within the Beaverton School District boundaries. Beginning October 14, current Beaverton School District students are able to apply online using their BSD student ID. Resident students not currently attending a Beaverton school will need to complete a paper application available online, or at any school office beginning October 14, 2019. Applicants who do not have Internet access may also complete a paper application available at any school office. Please give careful consideration to your choice of school. Once an application has been submitted, no changes will be allowed.

Applications must be received no later than Friday, December 6, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. (PST).

The 21st Beaverton Education Foundation Phone-a-thon takes place October 9-17, 2019. This annual dialing tradition provides critical funds that support innovative educational programs for students in the Beaverton community. During the five-fun-filled nights, more than 350 student volunteers make over 30,000 phone calls, dedicating their time, energy and enthusiasm to supporting BEF programs.

Last year, BEF served over 27,000 Beaverton students in grades K-12, funding 124 academic programs or projects. Through this funding from our supporters and community engagement, $390,603 was invested back into our schools.

This year our goal is to fund 130 projects impacting 30,000 students. Together, we will make it happen.

The Phone campaign and the associated mailings are the Foundations largest fundraising activity of the year. Funds raised are reinvested in a wide variety of after and summer school programs for students at all of Beaverton public schools. Please Answer the Call for our students!
