Sundays From The Mesa # 35
May 6th - May 10th
Principal Message
Dear Alta Mesa Families,
We have finally arrived!!! It is state testing week for our 3rd-5th graders!! We will test Tuesday - Thursday over the next two weeks. This is the chance for our students to show off all of the great things they have learned this year. As parents you can help your child perform better by ensuring they are getting plenty of rest at night, a solid breakfast before school (or a school breakfast), and ensuring they are at school each day on time. Below there is a video from our district with some other great tips on what students can do to best prepare themselves for states testing.
I want parents to know that on Monday we will have our final lockdown drill of the year. You can have a conversation with your child that these drills are important to make sure that students stay safe in a variety of situations.
Finally, this week we are celebrating staff appreciation for Alta Mesa staff!!! We are fortunate to have an amazing staff and they deserve appreciation for their hard work. If you see a staff member or teacher make sure to let them know that you appreciate them for their hard work and devotion to students.
It's going to be another amazing week at Alta Mesa!!! Thank you for your continued support.

3rd-5th Grade CAASPP Testing ~ May 7th - 16th
The purposed of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) System is to assist teachers, administrators, students, and parents by promoting high-quality teaching and learning through the use of a variety of assessment approaches and item types.
This year testing will start on Tuesday, May 7th and will go through Thursday, May 16th. Testing is scheduled for two weeks because we only test students for an hour and a half each morning. Here are a few helpful tips for making sure your student is ready to go for testing:
- Ensure they arrive to school on time (8:05 for 4/5th grade, 8:20 for 3rd grade)
- Please refrain from scheduling appointments in the mornings as that is when our testing will be taking place
- Make sure your student has a healthy breakfast each day (our cafeteria has the best school breakfast in all the county)
- Make sure students are well rested and in bed on time
Open House ~ May 28th
Open House will be Tuesday, May 28th. Parents/Guardians will start in the gym at 5:30 for Mr. Miller's welcome and opening remarks. Booster Club will follow with an Ice Cream Social for students and families and then classrooms will open up at 6:00PM.
All School Aquatic Center Field Trip ~ May 30th
Thanks to our wonderful Booster Club and all the fundraising we have done over the school year there will not be a fee for the Aquatic Center field trip. Our trip is planned for Thursday, May 30th and have the Aquatic Center reserved for three hours! The buses will pick us up at 8:40 and drop us off at 9:00 and will pick us up from the Aquatic Center around 12:15.
Aquatic Center reminders:
- Make sure your student is wearing their swim suit and has a change of clothes
- Apply sunscreen on your student before they arrive to school - students are allowed to bring sunscreen but will have to apply it themselves or have his/her own parent assist
- Bring a towel
- Make sure your student arrives to school on time because the buses cannot wait, we will be leaving promptly at 8:40
