What Our Lions Are Learning

This week all our students had the chance to see Frozen Jr during their Encore time. We also honored our teachers with snacks, a lunch, and games throughout the week. Thanks to all of you who helped us let our teachers know how much we appreciate them!

We are in the final weeks of new content instruction of the school year! As we begin to wrap up, now is a good time to review with your students and start talking about study skills. Use the Open Up links to look back over units they've already covered in Math. Talk to them about figurative language, theme, plot, vocabulary, and main idea. Read with them! Does you student study best when they write flashcards? When they play games like Quizziz or Kahoot? When they have a friend or family member quiz them? When they re-write or re-read notes? Help them figure out what works for them! It will serve them well now and into the future!

Engage with ELA at Home!

It's the final quarter! Time to put the reading strategies students have learned all year to the test on the EOG and at home. Look at the SMART strategies below. Use them to work a few practice problems from the released EOGs linked below.

Math Moments

At Swann, we use Open Up math resources to deliver rigorous, standards-based core math instruction. You can also access all these resources at home to help your child practice their math and see what they are working on in class! As we move towards EOGs, consider challenging your student with practice problems each evening, perhaps as part of your dinner time conversation. You can find an entire tests here:

This month, the Swann Pride is focusing on HOPE! What does hope mean to you and your student? Why is hope important to our well being? What makes it hard to have hope? What helps us hold on to hope in challenging times?

It's getting hot, hot, hot!

As temperatures rise, we ask that families help us help our kids stay cool. Encourage them to bring a water bottle to school each day and wear weather-appropriate clothing (within dress code, of course). Hoodies and hot temperatures can spell disaster!
