Wildcat Weekly!
Wildcat Newsletter!
Our week started with a professional development day. Our teachers are hard at work! Topics covered were evidence based teaching strategies, student data review, NJSLA data review, and creating strategic educational groupings for our students. We were visited by members of the Presbyterian Church of Toms River (pictured above) who provided lunch for our staff. Thank you!
Consider nominating one of our amazing professionals for Teacher of the Year or Educational Professional of the Year! Details are below.
Our PTO Ghost Lollipop Sale is on Wednesday and Thursday! This is always an exciting sale for our students! Please see the flyer below.
Our attendance initiatives are in full swing! Below, we had many winners who showed incredible attendance during the month of September. Please remember to continue to build the positive habits and practices that will carry our positive attendance trends through to June! Regular wake up times, preparing for the next day the previous day, and voicing the importance of coming to school everyday and on time yielded amazing results last year!
Check out our Kindness Campaign winners below. Grace and Jackson were both were recognized by the teachers for helping friends and teachers...both are representing an awesome 2nd grade class! Thank you to Freddy's Steakburger's on Route 37! Please continue to emphasize the importance of kindness, respect, and understanding at home.
Fall Festival information is below! This is always a great event and we are adding a 'Trunk or Treat' to the festivities this year. Please click on the flier (below) in English and Spanish for more information. We strongly recommend prepaying for the event so that we can order the correct amount of pumpkins.
Our PBSIS winners are below. Names will be drawn every Friday! Thank you for being responsible, respectful, and safe!
We had two awesome presentations this week. On Tuesday we had a Fire Prevention Assembly for our Kindergarten through Grade 3 students. We were able to see a real fire truck and review fire safety from members of the Toms River Fire Department. Also, Preferred Behavioral Health's COMPASS program visited us again today. Our students and staff members enjoyed the lessons that reinforced what it looks like to be respectful to yourself and others.
All public schools will be observing Violence Awareness Week starting Monday. We will be conducing classroom activities that further endorse respect, responsibility, and understanding. COMPASS will reinforce these themes as well. On Wednesday, please have your children wear workout gear as we are having 'Work it Out Wednesday' to promote working out our differences using care, respect, and kind words. As always, physical and emotional safety will be highlighted to further promote positive school climate and culture. At Walnut Street, we take great pride in providing a safe and welcoming environment for our students and staff members. We thank you for the constant care you give to this issue at home.
Below, please see the Hurricane Helene Relief Effort flier. Please consider donating the items listed. Donations can be brought to the main office of the school. We have already received so many donations. Thank you for your consideration.
Our Employees of the Week are Mrs. DeMarinise and Ms. Jaquez!

Stay Connected! School Communication
As you know, district and school communication are vitally important. Here at Walnut Street Elementary School, we use various means of communication. ParentSquare is a communication app that we use to get information out quickly to our school community. It is a great idea to download the ParentSquare app to your Smartphone and make sure you use banners, sounds, badges, and push notifications so you know a message was sent. ParentSquare also sends an email to you when something is posted and can also translate into any language. Please download the app today!
Finally, the school has an active Instagram Account that we post the many happenings at Walnut Street. This account has over 360 followers. On this handle, we post amazing pictures and video of the goings on during the school year. Please follow us on Instagram: @wsewildcats
