ACADEMY ADVENTURES MIDTOWN
BUILDING ON STRENGTHS & FILLING BUCKETS!
The second quarter is off to a great start! Students jumped right back into routine after Fall Break. To better accommodate all grade levels, the mornings are built around ELA/Reading and Math centers. This allows Miss Denise to do direct instruction with all grade levels.
The students had some fun opportunities with onsite "field trips" during October. We had our second visit from the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. The students are learning about pets, how to be responsible pet owners and what the Humane Society does. Students also had the honor of working with a team from the Wyant College of Optical Science (University of Arizona). They came and demonstrated different optical science concepts and the students got hands-on learning! It was a lot of fun for everyone and we look forward to more visits. Thank you to Mr. ElKabbash (Galilah's Dad), who is an Assistant Professor of Optical Sciences, for inviting us to be a part of this outreach program. It is an amazing opportunity for our students!
November will be a busy month. We have several days off, so please make sure that you check the online calendar. It is updated as things change. We also have some very special family events! We will be hosting our first Thanksgiving Lunch for our families on the 21st and we will be doing a fun Stone Soup family lunch on the 27th. We hope you will be able to attend one or both of the events.
Thank you for your continued support! If you have any questions, concerns, ideas, etc., please do not hesitate to reach out!
Nutrition One (N1) is our new caterer this year. So far the students seem to really enjoy the change in food and especially love Pizza Mondays! We make sure we have both Pepperoni and Cheese Pizza available for families who do not eat pork. Every other item on the menu is beef or chicken based, there are no other options that include pork.
We have been working with N1 to provide our students with more food options. Although the lunch portions meet the national guidelines, many of the students have expressed they are still hungry. After some conversations with N1 and the Arizona Department of Education Child Nutrition, N1 will be providing extra fruit and vegetables for the students. These will be available not only at meals and snack time, but throughout the day if a child is hungry. At the end of the week if we have a lot of leftover fruit and/or veggies, we will be sending them home. The students are enjoying the extra fruit and veggies being available.
As a reminder, Academy Adventures Midtown is part of the National School Breakfast and Lunch Program. All students can eat for free. If you chose to send a lunch with your child, please remember the following:
- No Potato Chips of any kind
- Only Water or 100% Juice for drinks
- No Candy, Cake, Cookies, etc.
- We cannot refrigerate or warm up any food
If you have any questions on regarding breakfast or lunch, please contact Mrs. Angela.
This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
❔Who Should I Ask?❔
Academy Adventures Midtown is a small school, with a small staff. A helpful guide on who to speak with if you have questions or concerns.
Absences: You can send a message through Class Dojo or call the school at (520) 777-3757
Questions on Homework/Classwork/Missed Work from Absences: Miss Denise
Questions on Behavior in the Classroom: Miss Denise
Questions on Behavior in General: Miss Denise or Mrs. Angela
Questions on Enrollment: Mrs. Angela or Ms. Lia
Questions on Processes/Procedures in the School: Mrs. Angela
Concerns in the Classroom: Miss Denise
Concerns not being addressed: Mrs. Angela
If you have specific questions about your child, even if something as simple as how did they do today, please do not address that with Ms. Lia, Ms. Rubi or Miss Yesenia. It is very important that those questions are directed to the teacher and/or Mrs. Angela. Staff has been asked not to have those discussions with parents since it is not part of their duties. We strongly recommend that you make an appointment with Miss Denise if you have concerns.
If you have a question not listed above, please speak with Mrs. Angela, and if she is not available please ask to speak with Miss Denise or Mr. Jack. For the quickest response please send Mrs. Angela a message in Class Dojo. Due to many meetings and responsibilities that is often the way she can respond the fastest.
Our door is always open. Your feedback, concerns, suggestions are always welcome and encouraged. You are welcome to come observe at any time in the classroom. We are here for the students and will do all we can to make this a positive and safe learning environment. Never hesitate to reach out.

If you are able to donate items for the Stone Soup or Friendship Fruit Salad, please let Miss Denise know. An RSVP form and Donation Form will be going home in the next few days. We will also post in Class Dojo.
We hope you can join us for this fun activity!
Attendance is crucial to your child's academic success.
We are seeing an increase in tardies (students arriving after 8:15 AM). This is a crucial part of the learning day for students. Most of the core curriculum is taught first thing in the morning. Children who arrive late, miss important information and fall behind. Please make an effort to be at school daily, on time. If you have a reason why this is not possible, please speak with Mrs. Angela and/or Miss Denise. Let's work together to resolve this issue.
HELP US GROW!
Academy Adventures Midtown is looking to grow our enrollment. We will continue to keep our school small. We feel that we are able to make a bigger difference in each child's education when the population is small.
We continue to have open enrollment. We really need to enroll another 10-15 students. If you know of anyone with children in grades K-5, please encourage them to come check out the school, bring them to one of our events and/or share our newsletter with them. These are all great ways to let people know about the school. We want to continue to keep the school small so that we can continue focusing on each individual child, but we need a few more students to ensure the school is properly funded. We have incentives for both the referring family and the enrolling family! If you have any questions on enrollment, please speak with Mrs. Angela.
We appreciate your continued support!
Dear Families,
I hope this newsletter finds you well! As we embrace the month of November, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for your ongoing support in your child's education. Your partnership plays a vital role in our students’ success, and we appreciate everything you do.

Our Month in Review:
Math: Kindergarten students are continuing their journey in learning numbers, while first and second graders are diving into addition, place value, and beginning multiplication.
Reading: Students are strengthening their comprehension skills, which is essential for their growth.
Phonics: Kindergarten and first graders are focusing on consonants, vowels, reading and writing words, and exploring rhyming words. Second and third graders are also advancing their phonics skills.
Science: A big thank you to Mr. ElKabbash for organizing the hands-on STEM activities with Wyant College of Optical Science. Our students truly enjoyed the experience and are excited for their next visit!
Humane Society Visit: The Humane Society came to educate our students about dogs and how they communicate with humans and other animals. It was a wonderful experience for all!
Thanksgiving Cards: Our students will be writing Thanksgiving cards for the Cascades and the Gospel Rescue Mission to accompany meals for those in need. It’s a great opportunity for our students to learn that giving is about more than just money—it brings happiness to others.
Strength of the Month: November's strength is Service, which beautifully aligns with our card-making activity.
Celebrations:
This month, we have witnessed many wonderful moments in our learning journey:
Student Engagement: Students have shown remarkable enthusiasm during lessons, especially in math and reading activities.
Community Involvement: The interaction with the Humane Society and Mr. ElKabbash’s STEM activities fostered a sense of community and curiosity.
Acts of Kindness: The spirit of giving has been vibrant as students prepare their Thanksgiving cards.
These achievements highlight the positive atmosphere in our school, and we could not be prouder of our students!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Additional Information
To further support your child in math and reading, here are some helpful tips:
Math: Engage in math games using playing cards and dice. Students have been enjoying these activities during center time, which makes learning fun!
Reading: Establish a family reading time. Parents can read chapter books and ask questions about characters and plot predictions. Older students can also read to the family. Games like Scrabble can make reading practice enjoyable!
Thank you for your continued support in your child's education. Together, we can make a significant impact on their learning journey.
PLEASE JOIN US!
We are excited to host our first Thanksgiving Lunch on November 21st! We will have turkey and all the fixings! It is open to all family members who RSVP (watch for the forms to go home!). We are asking families to donate desserts. We will have some fun family activities as well.
On the 27th, we will be making Stone Soup and Friendship Fruit Salad! We invite parents to come and enjoy lunch with their child(ren). We will be making the soup and salad, along with doing some fun activities. It is a great way to kick off the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Watch for more information to be posted on Class Dojo. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Angela or Miss Denise.
📱 SCHOOL COMMUNICATION📱
Please make sure that you have notifications enabled on your Class Dojo app. We ask that you respect our time and do not send message on weekends or between the hours of 8:00 PM-7:00 AM on Monday-Friday, unless there is an emergency. You can also comment on School Story Posts and Events anytime. We will respond as soon as possible.
If you have any issues with Class Dojo, please contact the school. Please note, you are NOT required to pay for Class Dojo. We only use the free portion. The paid version is optional and not required.
Health and Safety of our students, staff and families is always a priority. Flu and Cold season has definitely begun. We have seen many staff and students ill. We do our best to keep a healthy environment, but we need your help!
Our mornings are finally cooling off! Please make sure your child has a sweater or jacket in the morning. We recommend you write their name on the inside or on the tag so that it doesn't get lost.
If your child is exhibiting signs of illness (excessive coughing, congestion, upset stomach, etc.) keep them home!!! They are required to stay home 48 hours with no symptoms, unless you obtain a note from a doctor saying it is safe for them to return to school. If your child is complaining of not feeling well and/or appears to be exhibiting excessive coughing, running noses, stomach issues, etc. you will be called and asked to pick them up. The 48 hours with no symptoms applies. All this information can be found in the Student Family Handbook you received at registration.
For the safety of the students, we do keep the side gates and front door locked. The side gate is open ONLY if staff is on the patio with students. We have installed some security cameras around the building as well. We have never had any issues with security at the school but we prefer to be proactive!
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the health and safety practices of the school, please do not hesitate to speak with Mrs. Angela.
BUILDING CONFIDENT LEARNERS!
Academy Adventures Midtown is passionate about supporting academic and emotional growth in each child. Cloud9 World provides many skills to help our students deal with every day situations occurring in their lives at school or at home. We have seen an increase in our students confidence and how they interact with one another. We will continue to build positive learning behaviors and an environment that fosters student well-being. There are resources for parents as well! We will continue to share the monthly strength resources in the newsletter. If you have any questions, please reach out to Miss Denise.
In October, students focused on Optimism. According to CloudWorld9, optimism is the belief and attitude that all is going to turn out well.
During the month of November, students are focusing on the strength, Service. According to Cloud9 World, Service is doing something for someone else without expecting any reward or gain. It is helping people out when they need a helping hand and a caring heart.
Below are some resources that you can use at home with your child.
LEARNING IS FUN AT ACADEMY ADVENTURES MIDTOWN!
Academy Adventures Midtown believes that learning comes in all forms and all children learn differently and at different speeds. Our goal is to reach each child and help them to build on their strengths. Check out some pictures of students participating in lessons during the school day.
One of the benefits of a small school is that it allows all students in all grades to work together. Learning does not have to be sitting behind a desk working out of a book and/or being lectured by the teacher. Our Miss Denise and Ms Lia strive (and succeed!) to make learning fun and interactive for our students. Allowing the Upper Elementary students to work with the Early Elementary students allows collaboration, teaching, and builds supportive relationships.
In December, students will be going to the Cascades of Tucson to make Gingerbread Houses with the residents! If you would like to donate some extra candy, we would greatly appreciate it. We will also have a family event the last day before Winter Break to make small versions of Gingerbread Houses.
We will also be having our annual December Baking Days! Watch for more information on what the students will be making this year!
